You are right Cam, watching this type of footage we see the real Elvis, not the Elvis who was battling his personal demons. Makes me happy to see him this way.

Thanks for putting that on.
In fact, Elvis did a lot of things like that, but luckily they never got publicized. Or unluckily, for him.
I wonder that there are still so many people, among Elvis fans, who have to stress particularily 'that he was a nice person'. I think it's clear to us who claim to know 'more,' isn't it ?
Elvis was a throughout nice person, a gentle and sensitive soul, a compassionate heart, and deep inside he always stayed an innocent boy. You may look into his eyes when he laughed so beautifully, so incredible infectious to make the saddest person in the world light up, and you may discover the Human Being with a huge 'H' and 'B' behind all that image junk his management, $$-hungry journalists and so-called book-writers, and eventually the world around wanted him to be. He never fit into that image, and he never would have, why do you think he felt the need to stuff himself with unhealthy pills to forget and nevertheless pull thru ??? As a regular man working a regular job he would certainly never even considered to take just one of these pills !
But well, fate wanted it differently, gave him a voice like no other, blessed him with a charisma like no other, gave him looks like no other, and the rest we all know...

Sadly, you are correct....she passed away a few weeks after this footage was shot, I believe.
It's still in debate as to when the footage was shot, though...some say it was before the April 19, 1972 show (during the intermission) in Albuquerque, NM and some say it was after the show which is silly because we all know that Elvis did not stick around after a show unless it was in Vegas to sign autographs or meet people) but due to Elvis's hair, it's most likely before the show that night.
I got into a disagreement on another board/group where people swore up and down that it was after the show, though. I still say that it was before the show that night.

This is the kind of thing i love about Elvis! No matter how bg a star he was he always had time for the little people, and i think it was very honourable of him to take time to make a difference in someones life!! Some big stars these days dont take the time to sign an autograph nevermind spend tme with fans but Elvis always did!
I applaud you Elvis, you really can show us all how to be a little better of a human being!

Who was this child? Is the child in New Mexico/Arizona?
Her name is/was Denise Sanchez. I believe that Rosanne (utmom2008) mentioned that the story was also printed in the papers there in Texas, as well.
Rosanne? Do you remember this story?
At least this child got to see her dream of meeting Elvis come true before she passed.

Yes, she was really Denise Sanchez and here is her story:
Denise Sanchez, an 8-year-old girl from Santa Fe, New Mexico, had been a huge Elvis Presley fan since she was four. After the Christmas holiday in 1971, Denise was diagnosed with cancer. She had to have her leg and part of her hip amputated when a large tumor was detected. A very short while later, the cancer spread to her lungs. Her doctors stopped the chemotherapy treatments she had been undergoing, stating that there was no more they could do for her.
Several months later, Denise's mother, Trudi, found out that Elvis was performing in Albuquerque on April 19, 1972. Mrs. Sanchez was able to get two tickets to the show. Her daughter was thrilled. As the day of the concert neared, Denise suffered a relapse and was given the devastating news that she was too sick to travel the 65 miles to see Elvis. The young girl cried for several days and begged her mother to take her to the show. She wanted to see Elvis in person before she died. Finally, her mother and her doctor agreed to let her go to the performance.
Two days before the show, Mrs. Sanchez was advised to go to the newspapers and have them print a story on Denise. Trudi went to the Albuquerque Journal and spoke with a reporter named Grace Marie Prather. Prather helped Trudi and Denise set up a meeting with Colonel Parker in the early afternoon on the day of the show. They spoke to Parker at length about Denise's condition and her wish to see Elvis. Parker told the women that they should come to the Hilton Hotel at 4 PM and he would see what he could do. Trudi brought her daughters, Denise and Paula, and her two best friends, Emma and Belinda Cantu, to the hotel at the appointed time. Prather also went along to document the meeting. The Colonel instructed them to come to the show at 5 PM. Denese could meet Elvis after the concert.
The entire clan drove to the Tingley Coliseum and were seated in special box seats. Denise fidgeted throughout the entire show, anxious for the performance to end so that she could meet her idol. During intermission, the Sanchez party was invited backstage to Elvis' dressing room. Denise was scared, fearing Elvis' reaction to her missing leg and hip and to her bald head. Elvis took one look at the child and knelt down in front of her, kissing both her cheeks. He told Denise that she was beautiful. Trudi started crying. She could not believe how loving Elvis was to her daughter and saw how happy and alive he made her feel. Denise shyly unrolled a poster of the King and asked him to autograph it. Elvis signed it: "To Denise - Love You, Elvis Presley". Denise then asked him to sing her a song once he went back onstage. As the second part of the concert began, Elvis dedicated the first song, "You Gave Me A Mountain", to Denise. He explained to the audience, "This song is for a very special little girl I just met backstage - Denise". Denise was thrilled and cried through the entire song.
When Denise got back home she told her mother that under no circumstances was she going to clean her face and wash off Elvis' kisses. Three days later, Denise had still not washed her face. On the fourth day, her mother finally forced her to clean her face. Elvis made little Denise's short life a happier one. His love for her helped her to feel better and eased her discomfort.

I don't want to turn this into a 'debate' but....there are a few 'holes' in this story in my opinion. I'm not saying that he didn't meet her...we can see from the video footage that he did meet her...I'm just saying that the reporter has their details messed up:
The article states: "The Colonel instructed them to come to the show at 5:00 p.m. Denise could meet Elvis after the concert". This doesn't 'add up' because of the reason I've stated below:
1. If this is 'after the concert' (and knowing that most of us have seen this on the "EOT Outtakes"/"Through My Eyes" DVDs then why is Elvis's hair not messed up from running to the car? An intermission at a concert is traditionally held before the concert - not afterwards. Elvis's hair is neatly combed and in place. If this had been after the concert as the article states, Elvis's hair wouldn't have been so neatly combed.
2. Was there another meeting between Elvis and Denise that wasn't filmed? The reason I ask is because (from what we see on the "EOT Outtakes"/"Through My Eyes" DVDs, they're on the bus and at no time do I see Elvis traditionally kneel down (get down on one knee) to kiss her - he only leans over very graciously and kisses her on the cheek becaise they are situated at a table so that Elvis can sign the poster for her.
My summation:
Elvis most likely met Denise rather quickly after Jackie Kahane's opening act and before he went onstage that night for his part of the show - he did not go 'after the show' to meet Denise. He flew directly home to Memphis after this concert. The reason I said all this is because there have been people on some Yahoo groups that I'm a member of who have argued vehemently that Elvis did meet Denise after his part of the show - and we all can see that is not what happened.
Either way, this footage is very touching to see and I'm glad that Denise was able to see her dream come true of meeting Elvis. Now, she's up in Heaven with him.
