I know this may be hard to choose, but which song , according to you is the saddest song Elvis sang?

There are many sad songs, the saddest I can come up with at the moment are:

Bitter They Are, Harder They Fall
I'm Leavin'
Never Again
Solitaire

:'(

Yes, I have noticed that also....... I don't know if they are tears or just stain.......but it looks like he really had tears in his eyes :'(
Whatever it was, the performance is still brilliant and sad.

Elvis was definately a tear jerker singer but after giving it some thought, I think yadee nailed it.

My Way live in 1977. That was tragic! The look on his face singing that made you feel like he knew his life was coming to an end.

Second to that I would say a tie for Never Again or Seperate Ways.

There are so many songs which tear up my heart every time I hear them, but the saddest songs in my opinion are:

- It's Midnight
- Hurt
- For Ol' Times Sake
- My Way

These songs really give me goosebumps.

You can tell he was said and heartbroken when he sang them, bacause you can feel his pain and sadness in his voice.

I have to say that What Now My Love from 1973 really makes me fill up, the emotion in his voice is so tender, and real, it really makes me sad! Oh and Long Black Limousine! A lot of people don't think its sad because it has quite a powerful meoldy and isn't very soft, but you can really feel like he is the guy belting out all his hurt and sadness in this one song, and thats what really gets me!

I'd have to say the following songs are the saddest:

"Long Black Limousine"

"My Way" (I prefer the "Aloha" version

"Separate Ways"

And when it's combined with footage of Elvis's funeral procession (as I've seen on YouTube frequently), "I'm Leavin'" always chokes me up every time....I tried searching for a version of it on YouTube that has the funeral footage but I didn't have any luck.

When I first saw Elvis sing "Unchained melody" on his last concert I cried and cried an thought it would never end. I thought I have to die when I saw him sing it. It was the first time I noticed how he looked on his last concert. I notice a lot of 70's songs listed and the 70's is my favourite Elvis period too. But in terms of sadness in lyrical content "Indescribably Blue" would take the #1 spot for me. In fact I find its sadness devastating! It's brilliant!

You know the line that has always got to me in this song is when he sings "Suppose I had no wish to be alive" I know it's easy to put meaning into things after the fact. But I truly do believe that Elvis opened his soul to us through his songs. I also believe he chose a lot of songs because they said things that he couldn't. Perhaps the very reason that we have chosen the songs we have.

I'm not sure why everyone thinks "Suppose" is a sad song. I know it sounds sad, but the meaning is very positive. The singer is thinking how awful the world would be without the wonderful things in life and the wonderful love of his life. The intent is that he is in a very happy relationship and truly counting his blessings.

Well I found "Take Good Care Of Her" to be such a sad song. Not so much in terms of lyrics, rather the way he sounds. The feeling is really miserable. It's positive he had the guts to convey his inner stirring in a song and I like this one.

I totally agree with your choice, (y)

Take good care of her, take good care of her
I suppose I ought to say congratulations
For you won the only girl I ever loved
But I hurt too much to face the situation
Just take good care of her, take good care of her

and NO, I don't feel he was in any way giving Priscilla and Mike any kind of message. I do think he was just singing through his heartache the way any artist does.
