I have heard his nurse, Marion Cooke, say in numerous interviews that no picture or movie ever did him justice.

I've heard from many who were fortunate enough to see him up close and talk to him, etc..say the same, that pictures and movies don't do him justice...Pris said same thing...
Lisa is same way...beleive it or not.:)
I think if I came face to face w/him I'd faint simply because no man should be that beautiful lol :D
What I would have given to just hug him.:)

Me too! I don't think I would faint but I think I most definitely would have stared at him and drooled. lol
I also heard that he had this strong aura about him that you knew he was coming before he stepped foot in the building. That with his looks would be like a one, two punch k/o!

Local actress and actor in my country who got the chance to meet him in person attested to the fact that he defintely look handsome in person than in still picture or movie. A converted non-Elvis fan swore when he saw Elvis in the middle of a crowd, his charisma and look shone brightly that you can easily spot him because he look is so different and attractive.

As my husband once said, there would be no way Elvis could ever disguise himself and roam about in public...he was that distinctive and stood out more than any other person I've ever seen. To say he was gorgeous even doesn't do him justice as there was also an energy surrounding him and a glow that is impossible to describe...this guy RADIATED and that's no exaggeration!

I've never seen Elvis in person or in concert, so I can't answer this question. I have however heard what some of you are saying about his aura (sp?) and that this whole electricity thing was in the air around him......what an awesome thing that would be to witness......it's like his special"ness" was all around him for all to see.......cool huh?

Lisa Marie has also commented that her son, Ben, has "something special" about him, referring to the aura. I know we have compared pictures on this site of Elvis when he was a child to Ben and there is a lot of resemblance there. I wonder if Ben has the talent?

I know two persons who saw him. The one in aloha from Hawaii special and the other one is the father of a friend of mine who did with him military service in Wiesbaden.
Both persons said he was much more handsome then we see him in pics or on television.
Even today they cannot explain what it was but that man had such an aura, you fell in love with him at first glimpse.
He could draw attention only with his looks, the way he moved, the way he walked. People were in awe everywhere he came.

Dianne, you have lived my dream, I can't believe you have actually seen him, you are so lucky....

No, I sure won't Jen. At the first concert in Oakland I was just trying to believe I was really there and that it was him on the stage. I think I was in shock for a week....and it never felt real. The second time in Tahoe we were so close and still it took me a while to realize that yes that was him in person. I could even see a little shadow of a beard that you never see in pictures and that woke me up....yup, I was really there and it was really him. I was pleased that the makeup he wore was light and he looked very natural.
I wish I could explain that aura around him but a lot of it was energy too. He vibrated with it in the way he moved, even walking across the stage. He was very loose in his movements and light footed yet the movements seemed to have a lot of power. I described him before as a big cat in the way he moved and I can't get any clearer than that....just beautiful! (You know I'm a fanatic cat lover :D)
He looked just like he did in the Aloha special but without that strange almost swollen forehead that to me he seemed to have in the special. I guess that must just have been the cameras and makeup because this was the same year as we saw him in Tahoe. Anyone else see something strange in his forehead in that special?

WOW Diane, thank you SO MUCH for that...you are so very fortunate, I don't know what I'd give to have been able to see him live...:D
Yes his whole face seemed kinda wierd to me as well in the Aloha special, I didn't want to say anything, well cause I didn't want to start nothing, so thank you for mentioning that.:D:D:D
Not just his forehead, but his cheeks, just, I don't know, his whole face looked off and yeah prob the angles and lighting, etc...

I SAW HIM ALOT IN LAS VEGAS HE WAS GORGEOUS. GREAT! GREAT! SMILE:D(y)..I ALSO LOVED TO HE SEE HIM INTERACT WITH THE BAND AN THE FANS. BUT AT TIMES HE COULD GET ON ALL KIND OF TOPICS WITH THE FANS. HE WAS TALL AN SLIM. AN LATER IN CALIF. IN 73 WHEN I SAW HIM HE WAS HEAVY . TO ME HE WAS STILL GREAT ON STAGE AN HE HAD US RIGHT IN THE PALM OF HIS SWEET HAND.. LOL
Diane

He sure was Lorrie! :D
Rythmknights, I've told this before and I still can't get over how stupid I was. We were told no cameras were allowed so I didn't bring one yet while we were there we saw flashes all over the place (this was in Tahoe).
Marina, my husband is 6 ft. and Elvis appeared to be exactly the same height. If he was an inch or so taller it was hard to tell as he was up on stage. At the time my husband and he even wore the same size clothes and shoes. His eyes were really beautiful, a light gray/blue, mostly blue with maybe some little light flecks of greenish-brown (stage lighting changed them from time to time) and the whites were really white and clear, the type of eyes they call light hazel and they change with whatever colour clothes the person wears.
Suzan, thank you for seeing what I did in Elvis' face in the Aloha special. He looked wonderful but something was off, yet if you remember in the Aloha interview previous to the special, that look wasn't there......strange.
Don't ask for stories anyone please, I can't remember anything except how he looked, moved and sang......it was too long ago and I was too awed. I did remember to take a good look at the musicians and background singers as I didn't remember even seeing them at the first concert we went to lol

Thank you again Diane for that wonderful memory you were generous enough to share w/those of us who weren't fortunate enough to see him in concert...:(
Yes, I do remember that, in the press conference and even the interview (in the white suit) he looked just fine, face was normal, etc...so who knows maybe it was the lighting, make-up and camera angles?????

I think that Elvis looked great in ever film or video clip I have seen of him EXCEPT for his "last filmed concert" as shown in "This Is Elvis". You could see actual shots of the crowd looking in stunned disbelief at EP's condtion - stumbling & sweating. I mean no disrespect to anyone here, and it it doesn't take away from Elvis' greatness or historical significance, but this is my honest opinion.

:DRita from this site met Elvis in person in Las Vegas during his September 1972 engagement, ans the Colonel arranged for her and her husband to meet Elvis in his or someones hotel suite, and she said he was far more handsome and everything else in person!!!!!And she said that he was the nicest person ans so humble!!!He genuienly wanted to hear about their lives as much as they wanted to talk about him!!!And to top it off, they saw him 6 or 7 times at the engagement!!!They were part of the British invaders!(lol):D(y):king:(y)

I agree w/that BrianK...he did not look good during his final televised concert "Elvis In concert"...though I'm happy we have the footage, but on the other hand I don't think it ever should have been shown...he was in very bad health.:(:(:(:( I remember crying the whole way thru watching it, I was only 10 that Oct. 77 that it was shown, but still...I'm happy that I have a tape of it though.

I so agree, that's what made me love him, the soul and heart of the man, you could just feel the goodness from him, it was almost tangible, even thru photos and the screen. And omg that smile, that indredible beautiful smile. And his eyes, the way they showed his emotions, you could truly tell when he was happy, sad, lonely, they truly were windows to his soul.
Thanks nolvis

You know what I think is unreal about Elvis? Even in that last concert, his face so swollen and looking so ill it hurt us to look at him, he still had that very special presence and magnetism that he had when he was at this best.
God really did give Gladys and Vernon a very special child. I get angry when I hear him compared to Jesus and so did he, but there was certainly something very unusual and unique about him that the world will never see again.

I saw him a few times. I was a kid then and Diane pointed out something that seemed so true. I was raised around gospel preachers that knew how to take over crowds with their persona, southern charisma, and that sort of thing. I have NEVER IN MY LIFE then or since seen anyone who could just walk in a room and people were almost hypnotized by him.
I look at him now as an adult and see that he, to me, was the most beautiful man I've ever seen.

You're right Riley, the photo Joe posted was photoshopped but I can tell you that he was just as beautiful in person nonetheless. The only difference I can see from this picture and in person is that his facial skin looked more natural of course but it was still fairly smooth.
His eye colour looks to be the same in this picture also grayish/blue with little brown/green flecks.

I try to picture what he must of looked like but it is very difficult to visualize. Oh I have meet him many times over the last 30 years in my dreams. Your hubby is a smart guy Diane. That's the reason I think it would have been difficult for him to have become a serious actor in a serious role, or any role for that matter. I don't know how else to say this, but.....he just didn't look like normal people look. To see him on that stage in Vegas, up close in those beautiful clothes......he was truly unbelievable. I can say this much...He absolutely was the most gorgeous man that ever graced this earth. No joking on that one! I saw him on April 9, 1972 at the Hampton Roads Coliseum in Virginia. I hesitated to mention it..because so often when you say that you've seen Elvis, you get bombarded with questions and I find that most of my memories of that night were simply how he looked...how he looked...and how he looked. But after reading Diane's post about her 'lack of memory' after seeing him...I figure I'm not the only one who has done that...so now I feel a little better...Thanks Diane!(y);)
By the time 1977 rolled around, I was back home in WV...and Huntington was to be put on the tour...so naturally, I was going to attend that concert!! But it didn't happen...:'(
Call it 'star struck' or whatever...but from a young woman's perspective...he was magically captivating. There was just something about this man that defies explanation. Diane was right about the 'big cat' thing...he was very fluid on stage...moved so gracefully, yet soooo powerfully too. And Rosanne...I know what you mean about his face! Perfectly chiseled features...unbelievably defined. But it was not just ONE feature in general, as I recall, it was that he had it all! The most beautiful eyes...a smile that was mesmerizing. He was truly God's gift to the world. :'( And even though I've seen so many photo's of him that were truly amazing...they don't do him justice! I tend to think that is mainly because when you have seen him in action, up on stage, his personality and aura play a big part in it too! Now combine all of that with the 'star struck' thing...and you have a potentially mind boggling experience on your hands...(y);)

I can tell you that YES, ABSOLUTELY he was. This may sound strange...but he looked EXACTLY like his pics or TTWII, only 1000 times better. I remember my mom saying that he was "almost so beautiful that he didn't look real."(y)(y) He was just breathtakingly gorgeous.:blush:
I've read that he was even more gorgeous in person, but in an extraordinary way. I wasn't lucky enough to see him in concert b/c Iwas too young, although my parents saw him several times (3, I think), but it was between 74 and 76. ;);)

No...I really don't think so. Take a look at the Youtube video Let Us Pray Together from Change of Habit. He has a "normal" haircut and is wearing a basic black suit that "any" man might wear to Church. Look at that...tell me would just blend right in. Did u ever see him in person? If you did you would surely understand that "aura" around him. It's very hard to put into words...:blush:

The "big Cat" is a great comparison. He was so fluid that it was almost like he prowled the stage. Add that to the absolute perfect posture....he would literally have 2200 people in that showroom mesmerized, hardly breathing. I've said this before, and Gail and Carole agree as well. Las Vegas was THE place to see him. The concerts were a great holdover til you got back to Vegas. I realize I was soooo blessed, but I knew every year after we checked in that my dad would go to Emilio's office and pay him whatever it took to make sure I was as close to him as I could get.
My all time favorite? Definetly Opening Night, Aug. 6th, 1973. That was the night when I got a kiss AND a scarf. He was wearing the iconic Aloha jumpsuit, so that was pretty cool in itself. Plus..as I listen to it now it was a great show music wise, as he did a little bit of everything. I have read that it was the only time he ever did Raised On Rock in person.
My Favorite song? That's a hard one. I got kissed during Help Me Make It Through The Night and the scarf during Can't Help Falling In Love. He had that last scarf on for quite awhile and everyone was wondering who was going to get it.:D Some of the highlights for me were My Way, American Trilogy, How Great Thou Art, Bridge Over Troubled Water and You've Lost That Lovin Feeling. It is a real shame that there wasn't another TTWII done so that everyone could see what My Way and American Trilogy were like in that small setting.:blush:

I think I know what you are trying to say Tim. He was so phenomenal that it was almost a surreal feeling.
Something that I forgot to add to my earlier posts, but I never hear it without thinking of him. I was like this each time I saw him but it was a much stronger feeling in Vegas because I was so close to the stage. EVERY time his 2001 Introduction would start I think I would actually come close to hyperventilating before it was over. About 3/4 of the way thru it I would feel that my heart was literally going to burst open. It was such a dramatic entrance anyway...and knowing that in mere seconds he would be right there in front of me is something that is hard for me to put into words how exciting it was.:notworthy:notworthy:king:

I might get shot here ; but I have a feeling EP went out many times undetected . I believe he could and did look differently "out of the spotlight".
Not that he still wasn't a handsome fellow. Just that "the image" on stage was different than the man . Of course, if he opened his mouth, I think he would have been easily recognized. ;)

Yes...I was a minor. Teenage High School age. They would let me walk thru the casino with my parents IF you did NOT stop. Yes....minors were allowed in the showroom. A little side note of interest~ the first time we went to Vegas we had gotten a cab at the airport. We got in and the driver said where to? My dad said The International Hotel. The cabbie looked at me and said I bet I know why you are headed there. Well...as we were approaching the hotel we saw the enormous iconic sign out front that everyone has seen in pics. ELVIS. On the side of the marquee it said RED FOXX was appearing in the lounge. We asked who that was and the cabbie said......a comedian that you DO NOT want to take your daughter to..his act is pretty vulgar. Well.....lo and behold, a year or two later SANFORD AND SON showed up on TV.:supriced:;)

My Aunt and Uncle lived there in Virginia, and I had went to stay with them for a while. My Uncle got the tickets...and talk about a happy girl....!! (y) Funny thing was...I took my 'new' camera with me, and they told us that we couldn't take a camera in there. Then when he came out, it was like fireworks...flashbulbs went off EVERYWHERE! I got soooo upset because I had not only followed the rules (yes, I was naive and not so naughty back then ), but I lost my camera that night too. And it was a gift to me...so that was sad.
