Elvis! He sang this song with so much power and emotion. The Righteous Brothers version sounds boring in comparison.

I voted for the second one :P just because I have a lot of memories connected to that version.
This doesn't mean I dislike Elvis version....there's so much passion in his live performances of that song that I always cry :'(

this song is not really one of my favourites - but as instrumental it's not too bad.

Elvis' version by far! He just had a unique way of putting so much feeling into his music...he really made that song mean something more....:notworthy:king:

I think that every song that Elvis sung sounds better than sung by others. Elvis had a way to sing a song so that I sounds great, whether it was a good song, or not. (y)

Well....
I voted for Elvis of course :D;)
I love his version (especially the 1977 - piano version), he put everything he had in that performance :'( Just so toching :'(
But, I think The Righteous Brothers made the song sound more classy  That's what I think though lol.

I like both versions, its almost like they are two different tunes. The Righteous Brothers is so mellow and teenage 60's whereas Elvis' version is so powerfull and almost like an opera song.

Though I think Elvis' version of it was amazing. I still prefer the Righteous bros version. Elvis himself apparently loved this version.
I usually imagine in my daydreams that this song is me and elvis' wedding song(soppy i know)
Both are great though.
To me Elvis cld sing any song good really!:king:

I agree! Elvis was good, but I love the Righteous Bros. CryBaby - great avatar
KellyElvis - WeddingSong? Girrrl, I want to know more!
When the Righteous Brothers do it they seem to kind of split up the lead for the parts which best fit their individual voices- Elvis sings the whole thing start to finish so I vote for Elvis's version.

i do love elvis very much but i think rightous bros do that song miles better than elvis cos its a lovely high pitch love song but elvis sings it so deep and it just spoils the song abit
Bobby Hatfield did the high parts on it and Bill Medley the lower notes.

Elvis! No, Righteous Bros. Wait, Elvis.
You get the idea. I can't decide. Deep down, I like the Righteous Bros. It's the version I heard first, & the one I'm most familiar with. But Elvis - only Elvis could do it as well if not better!

I remember this song from the second Naked Gun movie. I did notice these are the things I'd love to do with Billy Gilman sometime: grilling meat, baking pots together (3 pairs of hands are okay with me) and listening to Unchained Melody - compared to the version by the Righteous Brothers, Elvis puts more depth in his soulful rendition (the center of tonal gravity, so to say, sounds amazing).
I think Elvis was more inspired by Roy Hamilton's booming baritone - so it's not really a high-pitched song (there will be a time when you get hear to mine).

The only song i realy ever liked by the rightous brothers was unchained melody. But when you compare that to all the songs i no and love by Elvis there is no comparison. Elvis you either love him or your hate him. I have been an Elvis fan since i was 3 and seen him on the Ed sulivan show in 1968, the same year of the comback concert.

Elvis added a depth to "Unchained Melody" with the timber in his voice, and the emotion he added to the song.
Goosebumps time.
Kim
It's all subjective. There is no right or wrong answer. If you asked this question on a Righteous Brothers board it would go the other way.Elvis did a great version. However the Righteous Brothers did the definitive version and pretty much made it their song.Certainly that's the way it's perceived by the general public. They pretty much own it.You hear their version on the radio all the time.

Interestingly, the Righteous Brothers' version is at least the ninth version of the song by a major artist, recorded ten years after it was originally released in 1955.
I never realised until recently that it's actually a prison ballad, and the words are about a guy doing time until he can see his lover.

09-27-2007, 07:11 AM
Well, that is interesting information I can tell!
I've always found Elvis' version to be more similar to Roy Hamilton's. I think people underestimate Hamilton's vocal influence on Elvis: he did these big ballads, such as "Hurt", "Unchained Melody", "You'll Never Walk Alone" and even "Pledging My Love" before Elvis did.

We are Elvis fans, who do you think we're going to pick? (just kidding) But his version has more emotion compaired to the Righteous Brothers. One of the Righteous Brothers sang "old friend" which was awful in my opinion. It was like hearing Robert Gulay sing Jailhouse Rock. LOL. Like i said before Elvis could sing names out of a phone book and it would sound 100% better than any singer out there today..You go King,my boy my boy.

I have heard this song first in that wonderful movie, in 'Ghost' and I totally fell in love with this song immediately, it is beautiful and touching. And when I heard Elvis version, I thought it is very very beautiful :supriced:, I have never known before that he also sang this song. I love his version, I felt that I fell in love with that song again. Elvis did a really great version!!

Have to go with Elvis on this one....he sounds like he really is longing and hungering like the song says....the righteous brothers sound more like they are just waiting for puberty to end....and don`t get me wrong I`ve always enjoyed their songs......but here it`s the boys versus the MAN.

I agree!!!!!!
I never liked "Bridge over Troubled Water" but when I heard Elvis' version I felt the power of the song.
Same with "Unchained Melody" Elvis has a way of singing that touches the heart. I guess that's real talent, being able to convey the feeling of the song.
There's just so much emotion when its sung by Elvis!

I voted for the Righteous Brothers. This a favourite because of the Ghost film. I haven't played this for a long time.
There is no point in having a poll if you got to vote for Elvis everytime.
I like Elvis's live version from the EAP Silver Box. This track sounded like they copied the track off a scratchy record at the end when the person was whistling.

I chose Evis I meant Elvis , our guy always sing much better cover version to any songs (just my opinion ;) ) .. my bf and I went to see Bill Medley last year,...and when he sang this song he dedicated it for Bobby,.. :'(
Please now... just because the lyrics said " oh my love my darling I am hunger for your touch..." it doesnt mean that Bill was a lil fruity....
I just thought it was thoughtful of him to dedicate the song for his friend/ co-singer in the group.

While the Righteous Brothers version is a stunning example of pop proficiency and splendidly arranged, there is no competition for the sheer humanity which Elvis injects into his.
I love both but something about E's has always given me more tingles.

I tend to agree with both of you. Elvis' version really does seem to have all of his heart and soul into every line. However...if you are at a party or wedding reception, etc and the DJ plays the Righteous Brothers version....the dance floor quickly fills up.:D:P:D

No doubt that Elvis' version is the most emotional and pesonal of the 2 versions; however, I just can't seem to get Patrick Swazey and Demi Moore and that particuliar steamy scene in the movie Ghost, out of my mind when I hear the original version!!!!!:blush::blush:

Yes...my point exactly. I took pottery in High School, we used the pottery wheel...I just don't remember any episodes to rival "Ghost". Maybe it's because our pottery teacher looked nothing like Patrick Swayze.;);):lol::lol:
