I know everyone probably has dozens of favorites but, just for fun, what would you say are your top 3 favorite songs that Elvis sings? I know moods change, tastes change.. but what are your current favorites?

Let's have some fun with this! (y) :) :king:

Right now, I'd have to say my top 3 are:

1) You Gave Me A Mountain
2) Fool
3) Suspicious Minds

What are yours? :hmm:

The King's Queen

1) All of the 50's

2) All of the 60's

3) All of the 70's

:lmfao::lmfao: Will that work Vissie??? j/k...

I'll think it over, and post my three in a bit...

Vissie,

These are three of the greatest performances Elvis ever put on record, something fans and critics and non fans agree on. Stop what you are doing right now and go find those songs.

Mystery Train - universally proclaimed as his greatest Sun recording and one of the greatest recordings in rock and roll.

Stranger in My Home Town - one of the highlights of the 1969 American recordings. Get both the master and the alternate take.

Tomorrow is a Long Time - another stand out recording from the mid '60's written by Bob Dylan - who proclaimed it the best cover of one of his songs he had ever heard - Believe it was released on the Spinout soundtrack as a bonus song.

Mystery Train can be found on any of the Sun compilations and Stranger in My Home Town master can be found on any of the 1969 American Sound Studio compilations.

King Creole - give some more specifics on where these great songs can be found.

Raised, I don't believe I've heard Mystery Train, Stranger in My Own Home Town or Tomorrow is a Long Time(?) What time period are they from?

Well as rock and roll put it, these are 3 of Elvis finest recordings.

"Mystery Train". This was recorded in '55 at Sun Records, an american music classic recording, fantastic track. It was also one of Elvis own favourite recordings as he played it in almost all of his concerts from '69 and '70, and still had a ball with it as late as in '75 and '76.

The "Elvis at Sun" Cd would be the easiest way to get the original '55 single.
"Elvis in Person at the International Hotel" or "ELvis: Thats The Way It Is, Special Edition" would be a good chooice to get the classic live treatment of the later Elvis.

"Stranger in My Own Home Town" This track was a statment: "Back in Memphis", back to his roots, proving he WAS the KING after almost a decade of lossing little by little his street credibility, proving what Howling Wolf or Joe Cocker once stated: Elvis was the greatest white blues singers on earth. Recorded in Feb '69 at the legendary American Sound Studios under the direction of Chips Moman, its one of Elvis finest R&B performances, brothered all the way withthe better known hits "In the Ghetto" or "Suspicious Minds".

"Back in Memphis" an original '69 album would be my choice for a single CD with "Stranger..." on it.
"Suspicious Minds: The Memphis '69 Anthology" would be a great choice if you want to go for all the American Studio recordings.

"Tomorrow is a Long Time" This was recorded in May '66 at the same sessions he did the "How Great Thou Art" grammy awarded album, it was written by Bob Dylan, a man that Elvis respected so much, and a man that on the other side was huge ELvis fan. Dylan said about the song: "Tomorrow is a Long Time" by Elvis Presley, that?s the most beautiful recording of a song of mine".

There was a great CD release in '99 called "Tomorrow is a Long Time" with some of Elvis greatest mid to late 60's folk and country sides. The track we are talking about its obviously there.

The song can be found too on the great great and highly underated box set "Elvis: Artist of the Century" a 3 cd collection with what can be called: Elvis most critical aclaimed recordings. (In fact you can get the 3 mentioned tracks in this box set so... you might want to go and just get this wonderful box set.)

Hope these info may be useful to you.

Can white men sing the blues?
Sure,as long as they are called Elvis Presley.
In 1960 at the height of his career.

I just can't do this lol. It all depends on my mood. There are songs for when I feel energetic and there are favorite ones for when I want something soothing,..it goes on and on.

Okay, for energy or dancing it's something funky like:
Down In The Alley
Clean Up Your Own Backyard
I, John

Soothing:
Hey Jude
Happy Ending
Only The Strong Survive

Sad:
Don't Cry Daddy
Long Black Limousine
Woman Without Love

This week:
1. Down in the Alley (or any blues/rock)
2. Early Morning Rain - my heart just melts. I love the version from the Aloha special.
3. Let's Be Friends. I've been listening to the movie tunes lately & I love the way his voice softens and becomes especially rhythmic - as if he is actually looking at the child he is singing to!

I'll be back next week with my new picks! :lmfao:

Ok. Every song that Elvis Presley sings, I Love but I will pick the most Three that are on my top list.
1)Let's Pretend. He put his whole heart and soul into this song.
2)Power Of My Love. He just gives me goose pumps every time I hear him sings this song.
3)In The Ghetto. This song says a lot.

Hi, Great thread...(y)

It's very difficult to chose 3 songs, better would be 30 or 300 :D My favourites change almost every day...
But my current 3 favourites are:

- A thing called love
- How great thou art (live)
- Love me, love the life I lead

And of course I love sooooooooo many others... ;)
