I have the original in VHS and just lately bought the DVD. I much prefer Elvis' stage performances than movies of Elvis as I don't feel any of them are an accurate portrayal. To me it was like most....ok. Still prefer Kurt Russell's portrayal above all others.

I remember seeing this movie in the theatre in 1980. I was 12

I nagged my Mom to take me - she wasn't an Elvis fan - she liked the Beatles (and saw them perform in 1964)

When it got to the end, showing the funeral procession - a woman in the row ahead of us starting wailing, howling, keening - scratching her face and moving her upper body in circles - I was so stunned at this - because, like I said, 1980 - Elvis dying wasn't exactly news

but it sure was a testament to how much he still meant and effected us.

But, I was 12, so I didn't get that level of emotion - also, my family wasn't big on emotional displays either, so....

I turned to look at my Mom, and she was stock still with tears on her cheeks - I was stunned - and I started crying too. Some for Elvis and some for the emotion in the theatre

A few months ago, I watch that DVD Elvis has left the building - the collection of news clips and specials from when Elvis died.

the shock and disbelief on the news casters, the outpouring of despair from interviewees - I sat in my livingroom, age 42 myself and some 33 years after Elvis' death - and I cried

hard, not keening like the woman way back - but certainly with more understanding of her - and the loss that was Elvis

I Was 11 When he died, and remember going cinema to watch this is elvis, your story brought a lot of
memories back for me. especially seeing the hearse and hearing american trilogy, i walked home
with my brothers and none of us could speak about him dying, ELVIS TOUCHED US SO DEEPLY,

I´ve bought it just two days after you told us about it, Danielle. And I just watched the end of it today. I must say: You were right! It´s great! The best was when Elvis was joking around before the Las Vegas concerts in 1970.
It was funny how he read the card: "Dear Elvis, after 15 years we have finally leaned to understand what you say on record. Signed RCA". And the best was when he read: "Dear Elvis, may you have the biggest of them all". :lmfao: I laughed sooo much! And I thought: "The biggest what?".

I understand completely. He just sank under my skin like a beloved uncle, even as I never met the man, he left an impression that
isn't easily erased, just cherished. . .
