Part 1 of 3
Here are some pics from the Sony / BMG 30th anniversary bash in Darling Harbour, Sydney, on Thursday night, August 16th.
Not a bad night; about 200 or so people bopping away to Elvis music. A US DJ (who said he met Elvis) played some obscure stuff (eg Stay Away, Joe, and, er, Beach Shack!) and everyone loved it.
The only spoiler came with "tribute artist" Mick Gerace. He was terrible (missed notes etc) and, more importantly, he was pointless! The music of the King should've been enough. However, I have to say his band was very good indeed.
There were two giant video screens and several large TVs with Elvis playing on them. The posters and banners you see here didn't last long. They were quickly stolen by guests ... including me! Yes, I'm a thief, and I don't care! The coolest thing was the gold lame suit cutouts, but nobody got away with any of them. The giant banner I stole covers my entire Queen size bed, as you can see. Don't know where I'll put it. Probably in storage.
There's also a photo here of the special one-off keyring BMG gave to all of the VIP guests, so that was pretty cool to receive as well.
The anniversary got a colossal amount of coverage here in Australia, as I'm sure it did elsewhere.
Anyway, enjoy the pics.
