Last Friday night they played Elvis songs for 5 hours and the listeners were able to call the station and tell memories, thoughts etc of Elvis.
One lady called and told how she saw Elvis live in Vegas in'75 or ?76 (Can't remember),which I don't doubt, BUT she also claimed the show lasted for 4 hours, because of the songs the audiences had requested.
Sounds very nice to me! Just that I thought Elvis didn?t take any requests from the audience during his concerts. I think I read it somewhere.:hmm:
Does someone know better? I?m curious to know.
Maybe some of you has been at his Vegas gigs back then? Can't tell you any dates as she didn't mention one or at least I didn't notice.
Elvis never played for 4 hours.I believe his longest show ever in on the boot called" And Then The Lights Went Down".I just cant recall the length from memory.Just over 2 hours i think.I havent played that in a long time.
Elvis did take requests but rarely. There is a boot cd called "The Request Box Shows" that is one of these shows.I think an ice bucket was passed around and people tossed in their requests.I think he performed Young and Beautifull on one of those nights. It only happened once or twice but he had a request box out front for the audience while he was on tour.May have been as Ashville concert in 75.I think him taking requests was mainly in 1975.

Elvis did resquest but not at every show and at most it would be five.
Examples:
Southbound - Elvis was in Macon, Georgia on August 31, 1976 and a man request Elvis to do That's All Right Mama. Elvis did it. I believe a lady request Elvis to do Blue Christmas. Elvis did it as well.
The Bicentennial Elvis Experience - Elvis was in Hampton Roads, Virginia on August 1, 1976. Elvis read a sign that says Return To Sender and he told them if we know it and then he sung it.
Pieces of My Life - Elvis was in Ashville, North Carolina on July 24, 1975. Elvis would do a concert that is full of requests. The following songs were requested: An American Trilogy, Heartbreak Hotel, Jailhouse Rock, Something (last time sung live), Return To Sender, Wooden Heart, and Hawaiian Wedding Song
Loving You - Elvis was in Vegas on August 19, 1975. Elvis sung two requests during the show - Loving You and Crying In The Chapel.
There is many other shows that he took requests. But he do it often. He took requests mostly in 1975 and 1976. He did some in 1971, 1973, 1974 and 1977 as well but not as many as he did in 1975 and 1976.
Another thing is that many fans would request a song he was going to do anyways. He didnt stray from his setlist that often.

Elvis did once in a while hear someone yell a song and he would do a quick burst of it-but thats not the same as saying "Hey what do you want to hear"
And a 4 hour show would have been a dream but I'm pretty sure it never happened. Maybe the whole time this lady sat in the showroom ended up being 4 hours and she is confusing it with the shows length.

I remember hearing a Sahara show a while back where he was doing lots of requests. Can't remember the date though.
