Thanks Brian that was one of the most honest and personal interviews regarding Elvis I have ever seen ..it really moved me I would not have expected anything less than the truth from Elton and what a tribute he gave to Elvis...loved the part with him and his mum at the concert and yes I think alot of people forget Elvis was JUST 42 when he passed away :'( but what memories and music he left behind..always the King of Rock and Roll

I'm not the biggest fan of Elton John but I liked this interview, his honesty about the situation is refreshing to see in a balanced way. "Yes Elvis was fu*cked up in 1976, but there were still flashes of brilliance" I suppose when you have had a similar lifestyle you are going to encounter similar problems, Elton was open about his issues and I suppose that is one of the first steps to recovery.
I may watch that again, thank you Brian (y)

Well also Elton could benefit from seeing how it affected Elvis.
I do recall in the early 70s Elton made the comment:
"I don't want to end up in Vegas singing my old hits for my supper"
So now that he is no longer the young man who has all the answers, and has seen how his own life has played till now he is more elder statesman.
He made it clear how he felt about Elvis's talent and place in music history.
Nice interview.

Absolutely, we can't even imagine what it's like to be in the spotlight
every day for 22 years, with your private life out in the open.
It must do somthing to you. Specially when you start out so young.

Agreed
Elton John has lived in the spotlight for as many years as Elvis and probably has a personal wealth that exceeds that of many superstars! when he speaks of experience you can believe what he says, Elton speaks of Elvis in a way that is forgotten today because there are those who surpass the once outrageous behaver of a rebel of the 1950's.
Elvis was outrageous and suggestive in the 50's the stars of today would sell their soul to have anything like his kudos, unfortunately their souls will pay the price come judgement day.

Nice to see Elton John showing a little more sympathy as he gets older, as he more than once said Elvis "looked like a beached whale" when he met him in 76.

You know I think Elvis would have done good cover versions of Eltons songs..... Your Song, Rocket man and Im Still Still Standing come to mind as songs that may have suited Elvis to sit :hmm:

Sometimes it takes awhile for other stars to understand what Elvis went through late in his life, that he was no longer an adonis as he had been most of his adult life, thus the change of tone from Elton. Also, John is getting older, and certainly not thinner, thus perhaps more compassionate.

That was refreshing to see someone, especially another big music star, talk candidly and honestly as well as repectfully about Elvis. They did remove it because the official show has the clip up. Here's the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_8mLhX_f4to

Elvis was in better shape physically, than Elton, in my opinion.

If you try to think about the meaning of 'beached whale', so to say... The King of The Seas has arrived at the end of his life... there is a bit of truth in it.;)

Good interview, honest. I've been a fan of Elton's music for a very long time & I enjoyed his musical tribute to Elvis as well. Very on the mark when he says that even though Elvis was ****** up, there was still magic when he sang. Elvis' voice & musicial interpretation rarely let him (or us) down. Thanks for the new post, MenWithBrokenHearts.
