In the movie This is Elvis,Joe Esposito said before Elvis is entering the stage in Rapid City '77,that he accept his appearance.Do you guys think that's true,or has Elvis said this to somebody?

i think elvis didnt love his appearance but it was who he was at that point and he had to accept it whether he said it out loud to joe or someone else i dont know elvis was a private man and my thoughts are maybee he wouldnt talk about things like that but i'm sure its not who elvis wanted to be

I think they made it up...
And it would have been a bad thing if he accepted the bloated, overweight appearance, because that would be like a surrender, a defeat.

thanks for you replies
I don't think he accepted his appearance, for the same reason Albert said...that wouldn't be good and would have been a surrender.
But I think Elvis really wanted to lose weight...he was lost weight, during his vacation in July/August right?
That's what i've heard...

I agree with Albert, I think they made it up.
I think he was very worried about his appearance and his health. I also think he was seriously thinking about doing something about it, whether he would have had the emotional strength to carry through is something we'll never know as he never got the chance.

Elvis didn't love his image. He had plastic surgery on his eyes to make them more 'younger' looking, alothough he did not need it. He looked different, but i loved him no matter what and i think his fans did. But maybe he didn't :king:

I agree with Diane. ELVIS was a perfectionist. He had to know he wasn't at his best those last couple of years. I think he made every effort to look as good as he could when he presented himself on stage...under difficult circumstances at the time. No way do I think ELVIS "accepted" the situation though. I think Joe didn't really word that correctly.

Yeah because when i found out on Elvis the definitive collection, i asked about it on here and they said it was true ! Hey so there's something new to you lol.
But you can see a slight difference i guess not much though. He was always perfect to me.

the plastic surgery is not very well known under the people...only fans know this...well almost every fan...but that's understandable, because it's not very famous news

i think if elvis had to go onstage he had to except he was no spring chicken and this was him, take it or leave it. he probably felt uncomfortable but learned to acept it because it would enable him to go out and sing for his fans

When someone loves someone, all they see is their inner beauty, their mannerisms, their sense of them, how their heart knows, the way they laugh, the way they speak, watching their eyes, because all they feel is their love for them.
People who are more than one dimensional feel this way. Elvis worked in a world where people weren't real. That would be so very hard, I don't think I could do it, it would frighten me. I don't like to be in some circles, where people are like this (and put up with it anyway). However, there are a lot of real people around, their families are real, their friends are real, and they love, unconditionally.

Yes that was said, and yes, he was unwell, all those factors. Who wouldn't be, going through what he was going through at the time? I don't know how he went ahead and got up on stage, great strength, pulling himself up anyway, I guess, he always did. I wish he took a breath, slowed down, gave himself credit for all the good things. Hey, but that is just about impossible, when you are hurting so bad, people understand that. Time does heal, and people need to give themselves time, but how do they do that, when they are expected to work, anyway? How can anyone relate to it? I can't, I'm trying, but I still can't. I wish I could, but all I can do, is offer love.
Credit has to be given, to Elvis, where due. I'm giving him a hug. It's huge, so he better watch out, because it has to go a long way........ ......... That comes with love, from my heart. He knows he was unwell, people all go through challenges in their lives. His were greater, because his life was magnified so many more times, because of his successes. That is all anyone is trying to say. There are a lot of people who support him because they love him.
"Never go to bed mad", (think of the hugs, lol) and another one, "please be easy on yourself"
 you
Proud....LYPS
(A saying DC made up when little).
I read somewhere One of the Sweet Inspirations said when they saw him in Rapid City SD they all thought he looked much better than he had at Omaha. So when they heard the bulk of the special would be from that date they were happy. But when it was telecast she cried because she realized how sick he looked. She said something like she didnt know if it was because the camera seems to add pounds and magnifly flaws- or if they were all were wearing blinders when they saw him in Rapid City. So any improvement seemed great to them. I do not think he accepted his look as Joe said. IMO it would have been hard for him not be unhappy with his weight. I think at times in 77 he looked better than others. But that line by Joe I don't buy.
