I was on a car journey yesterday playing the Pot Luck CD. I really listened to the lyrics for the first time and thought how beautiful a song "I Met Her Today" is: the lyrics, the music the voice.
Anyway I was then talking to a friend and had mentioned this then later in the conversation said "I'm worse about Elvis now that I ever have been, I don't even like listening to other music at all at the minute".
She replied "Well, as long as he keeps suprising you why would you need any other music."
I thought this was such a lovely thing to be said by someone who's not an Elvis fan and who I worry I drive demented by going on about him! :P

So ... does Elvis still suprise you?

great story conner

i know what you mean, you sometimes have elvis in the background while you are busy doing other things, so youre not really listening to the words, but when in a quite moment you hear the same song it takes on a different meaning because you are really hearing the song

its happening to me now as i write this

Since really "getting into this Elvis business "....I'm often surprised at hearing songs I've never heard him sing before .
Many of them are "bootlegs" . I guess other countries got more of his songs than we did. Amazing to me !!
But, surprised & pleased.

Yes, I'm continually surprise by Elvis. I'll be listening to a song I may have heard countless times and all of a sudden find myself listening more intently to a part of it that I never noticed was special before in the highs or lows of his voice or in the timing.

Also what Geordie said, sometimes a song will take a whole new meaning.

So ... does Elvis still suprise you?

Elvis constantly surprises me. And I love the surprises. I've been a huge admirer of the man for many, many years & only recently I've gotten the resources to really invest in his music. At first, I was avoiding the music that is a mainstay. You know, the "same 20 songs" that one hears on the radio. They've just become rote - I didn't even pay attention anymore. Then someone said "Don't be Cruel" really touched his soul as a teenager, he had just broken up with his girlfriend & that song seemed to have been sung just for him. So I pulled up the lyrics to the song, then listened to the music & WOW:supriced: My appreciation for the same ole 20 songs has definitely risen.
BTW, my new favorite song is "Tell Her Jim said Hello"(y) :D (y)

Elvis surprises me again and again, last time I was listening to the lyrics of 'Old Shep' and I imagined little Elvis standing in front of the audience singing this sad song without backing, only himself and his voice....(y)

I will usually listen to a song I love, over and over, until I get sick of it. (This goes for all music).

What surprises me, is that I'll play an Elvis song that I haven't played for a while, I won't be the least bit sick of it, I'll discover new facets to it, as if I haven't listened to it before. Amazing. Yes, he can always surprise me, lol ;)

Man always surprises me .;) But Elvis never disappoints me....at least in his singing. :D
He can "mirror" my feelings to the utmost. Especially Gospel & the ballads he sang. The emotions he stirs are "every man, womans & childs."
They are ageless. That is why he stays "at the top" IMO.....

Elvis never ceases to surprise me every time I hear him sing, I wonder at this voice. I'm amazed how he puts all his emotions into each and every word and brings each song to life, he sings from his heart and soul. IMO that is what makes him so special he can reach out and touch your heart with his awesome voice.

What happens to me is, I tend to listen to the same albums particularly post 1968. When I listen to some albums which I haven't listened to for months (or years), I usually enjoy the album immensely - and that surprises me since I'm not particulary excited by many 60's stuff, especially the soundtracks.

I love studio outake material, to hear him relaxed and goofing about, or working hard to commit his vocals to tape......awesome stuff!!!!

So yes, I am amazed that everyone on this earth doesn't appreciate his voice like we all do on here..........
