I would like to hear your opinion on why Elvis changed so much during 1968-1973. Both vocally, and physicly. I have always wondered about that :hmm:

1. The times: fashions changed radically in the late sixties and early seventies.
2. Age: men change a lot in their late 30s and early 40s. As for his voice, perhaps the strain of the return to live shows caused his voice to change.
3. Lifestyle: drugs, food, touring, exhaustion.
Whatever change was made ; I thought he looked & sounded great !!
IMO, he was too skinny before . But, I loved his voice.....
When I saw him in '76 . believe me, there wasn't a thing wrong that I could see.;) :)

Lifestyle, eating habits, working too hard, and on the road a lot!
It would take a toll on him, especially in his latter years..

At the begin he was going back on the Stage again. He was a husband anda father at that time. He was the most happiest time of his life. To be a father, he always was a family person.
In 1970 he started in vegas again, they filmed it. A movie was made again and this time about who he was: himself. So he get a kick out of that, just to be himself and to show that to the fans. All shows were Sold-Out. He felt great to be On stage. Even in his Private life he was still the happy man.
In 1972 things start changing... between Elvis and Priscilla. He's on Stage to much and leave Priscilla at home. He is happy on stage but at home he has arguments with Priscilla.
In 1973 Elvis is divorced... He sings in Aloha songs like 'It's Over' or 'What now my love'... He was thinking about his own life when he sang it.. You just notice that. But he was still happy. As you see him arriving to Hawaii he has a smile on his face. He accepted the decision that Priscilla made. But all the songs reminded him of all the thing that happend..
My opinion why Elvis changed is simple..... Life experience...

Not that much of a change from 68 to 73. Look how cool he looks in both years. The voice has changed, but i don't believe that was a direct effect of anything other than age. His voice was constantly changing through the 70's. In the next couple of years exhaustion and other factors come into it.

I'd 68 was to depart from his movie style and after that it evolved into songs, I think he'd been wanting to record or perform all his life. Now he had the chance without the "Rock-n-Roll" fifties syle getting in the way.

In the end, it was being overworked. I still can't believe that he did as well as he did with how hard he worked. Two shows a night!?! 10-15 cities in a row? At first I wanted to say - No, they don't do that - but yes he did. I don't know if bands do that today. I recall a line from the comedian who opened for Elvis in his later tours. That Elvis covered more cities than Presidential nominees & while he was not running for president - Elvis could be elected President. :hmm: President Presley? Yeah, I think I would've voted for him. At least then he would've been able to tour world-wide.

Elvis changed a lot. He was such a beautiful man and when I see pics of him from let's say 1975 till the end IMO he became so ill and bloated that there was nothing left of his once stunning looks. Such a shame and so sad. What did him look so different, I guess he gave up on life. THAT is what makes me so sad.
