Someone has told my wife that Graceland is going to close in a couple of years time. I don't believe it will and I haven't heard or read anything about it. Has anyone else heard any news about this?

Never heard this, and i think they won't close it...I mean, what is the reason for closing it?
That story has went around for the last 5 years that I remember.
Usually, at or around the time of the anniversary of 8/16/77.
So far, it hasn't happened.

Graceland is definately not closing. In fact it is expanding its operations and Robert Sillerman of CKX, Inc., hopes to increase the yearly visitor total to well over a million.
Exactly what Brian said! If Graceland were to close for anything, it would be a temporary closing to remodel the grounds back to what it was like when EP lived there. If my memory serves me correctly, Todd Morgan stated that Graceland will never close and not even for their expansion plans. From my understanding the plans are to build a massive state of the art museum across the street from Graceland or next to it in the newly purchased large mass of land they bought and to restore the racquet ball court back to its originality and move all the gold records and displays in there to the new museum when it is completed. Graceland did recently make notice that the new Jumpsuit display will remain opened for the next 2 years in its current location. It could be that by then a new museum will be built and the jumpsuit exhibit will be moved and expanded to include most if not all of the jumpsuits he owned to be permanently on display for good. They also want a larger car display and exhibit also.
Bob Sillerman has wonderful plans for Graceland to take EP to higher heights than we have seen before. If you look at Graceland and the Plaza today. It is all very cheaply done and very outdated and lack of commitment to expand up until now. This would not be possible without Bob Sillerman and his billions of dollars to spend and invest. The reported cost of all the soon coming changes are expected to be close to $200,000,000.00 and he has called in Bob Weiss and his top rated Island Designs Company to design and develop the massive project. An outdoor amphitheater, a new hotel and resort of possibly 400-600 rooms, and the new museum and an expanded welcome center are all being mentioned as among the new attractions that will be built and added across from the home. Sillerman wants to expand the overall visit to Graceland from a half a day experience to the ultimate experience of a multiple day event and stay. EPE/CKX have recently purchased over 60 acres of land and now brings the total of property to around 110 acres privately owned by EPE and more still to come from both EPE and the city of Memphis.
Graceland won't be closing but getting bigger and better.
