Anyone here going to buy this new book: Elvis: In the Beat of the Night
(see http://www.inthebeatofthenight.com)
It's been delayed for months but it's finally out. It's police related stories about Elvis by cops that knew him. I'm expecting some great new nuggets.
Anyone know how to buy it from the UK?

No idea if it will contain any new info......but, mines ordered & on the way......:) Maybe just a "different" perspective from other "real friends"??
Who knows ??
I just finished reading this book. It's a short book and a fairly fast read. The book bascially consists of short paragraphs from various police officers recounting their experiences with Elvis.Starts from the early years right up until the funeral. If anybody wants to believe Elvis is still alive you might want to avoid the book. Some of the officers tell about watching the autopsy and other somewhat disturbng things. Many funny stories also. Most of these I havent heard before.Since the book is fairly cheap I would not hesitate to recommend it.It's not the same old stuff getting rehashed over and over. Not many photos but the ones it did contain were rare.Has a nice photo of Elvis in a booth posing with the revolver of an officer from the 50's.

Yes, I got it & read mine. It was pretty much what I expected .
Nice to hear some good things for a change....but didn't leave out some bad ones either. Not everyone loved Elvis ...;)
It appears some of the officers did indeed watch an autopsy....but, Elvis ??
Who knows?? ;) :) I've got to tease you, jak. You're just too much fun...
I did wonder why the EMT's that picked up the body ,couldn't go back to Graceland . That was new to me. I'd always assumed they took Dr Nick back.....
Never presume or assume anything in Elvis World. Stories change all the time. ;)

I must say I would have been disappointed if you didnt;)

That's what an Elvis site is for ......F-U-N......;) and music .
There's several things some of those policemen were quoted as saying, I wondered about. But, it's not important. The author accomplished what he wanted ,I think. It was his tribute to EP from the Memphis police.
I'm not going to put him down for that....but, isn't it predictable ??
On this 30th anniversary there are so many books coming out.
Which stories are we to believe ??:'(
Or are they all right with the limited time one "knew" Elvis ??
EP was an enigma IF the many variations of "the truth" is to be believed.
No one "knew" the real Elvis; only the persona he chose to present to the different people in his life . RIP, Elvis.
BTW, jak: My daughter just came from S.C. a few weeks ago with many pictures.
A beautiful part of the USA ,it looks to me.:)

This book isnt going to give you any real insights about Elvis other than the fact he really was infactuated by law enforcement. On the whole I found most of the stories entertaining.I guess I didnt realize that Elvis' interest started so early in his life. It's obvious he had true respect for people in law enforcement. The book contained a few negative stories but overall it was positive and contained many stories of Elvis' generous nature.

BTW,ajr: The nice thing about SC is that I can leave my house and be surf fishing the atlantic coast ,or be up in the mountains in under 3 hours. The best of both worlds.
No, no new insights to EP. Except as you say......it's pretty obvious he respected law enforcement . Wonder what would have happened had he became "law enforcement" instead of being "the King "?? I've often wondered about that. Would he have become "the best darn policeman "the world ever saw ....or just wound up getting "killed in the line of duty"??
I respect the men & women that do these jobs too. I've often wished I'd chosen that instead of medicine. Oh well......what's meant to be will be.;)
jak; Now I truly am jealous !! I love the ocean !! Instead I'm "land-locked" in the middle of the US. We always want what we cannot have, it seems..:'(
Maybe next time I'll have a little talk with "the man upstairs " & he can see to it I am where I want to be .....
Most of my children love the ocean as much as I do. Why didn't we stay in Key West & send the husband back here ?? :hmm: Hind sight again. :)

Girls would park their cars in th middle of the road to get a fine ticket from him and steal poor grannies to be searched by him.
