Elvis and Merle Haggard

Hey ya'all,

I don't know how many country fans we have out here, but I'm curious about something. We know that Merle Haggard is a big Elvis fan. He's said it on occasion and in fact he did an Elvis tribute album which had some outstanding performances, "From Graceland To The Promised Land".

I watched the Jimmy Dean TV special not long ago at The Country Music Hall Of Fame and Haggard saluted EP. Both of these great artists worked with James Burton, so I'm wondering what did EP think of Merle?

I recall reading somewhere that they met backstage in Vegas after Elvis performed, Priscilla did not recognize the name and Elvis told her "Hes a country singer" Does anyone else remember reading this somewhere or am I confusing Merle Haggard with another singer?
