View Full Version : Lamar Fike book and website
Lamar Fike book announced: "Fike An Uncommon Journey" is the title of Lamar Fike's upcoming book release.
Renowned as a "straight shooter", Lamar Fike was a permanent part of Elvis' entourage over three decades. He and Elvis each other like brothers, and on occasion, fought like brothers. Lamar's insight to the Elvis story and the man who was Elvis Presley is well known to fans.
Co-written with Mark Bego, "Fike An Uncommon Journey" promises to be a unique perspective on the Elvis story. This could well be "THE" Elvis book release of 2007!

Lamar went to Germany with Elvis in the 50's. He's seen it all with Elvis. Elvis chose to have him around right up until the day he died. If Lamar is such a bad guy it doesent say much about Elvis, who chose to have him at his side constantly.
Give Lamar a brake. He didn't know what Goldman was doing with that book, and he is recovering from cancer. Cut him some slack. None of us were around, so, while conjecture is a good thing, lets deal with the fact that Elvis chose to have him around.

That is one thing I can admit, Elvis must have liked Lamar because he kept him around. All these guys had as many faults as Elvis, but he kept them around.

I well read the reviews first and if its worth it I may buy it to see just what stories he has to tell. Like others said. He was there with Elvis from almost begin' to end. You could tell which ones loved elvis and which ones where there for pay check.
Joe really loved Elvis I mean the man cries everytime he talks about the day Elvis was found dead. Charlie is other one that loved Elvis and I'm so happy that Charlie is up with his cloest friend in world singin tunes still...Dang makes me cry thinking of that. *smiles*
Love to all,

Yes that's true. I'm not here to defend Lamar, what I am saying is that people are willing to read books by authors who didn't know Elvis, let alone spend nearly two decades with the guy.
I'm going to read it, because I don't think Lamar is going to put much fantasy into the book and I value the insight and opinion of someone who was there over people who were not.
Goldman was a shmuck.

You know you can read the book without buying it, just go to the library and check it out. Thats what I've done in the past when a book came out that has played to the sensationalism of Elvis -and the motive seems to be make as much money as possible. I'm not saying this book will play for sensationalism since I have heard nothing about it till here, but if it does I won't put a dime in who evers pocket for doing it.
But since these guys all have had a hand in so many projects over the last 30 years which have not always been balanced I never expect much. I only wish a "Wizard of Oz" could give Elvis one day again on earth so he could have the chance to sit in a room with all of them, look them in the eye and say "now tell me to my face" Perhaps call them on some of the things which have been written, and maybe tell us a few stories from "his point of view". Maybe let us in on a few of the shortcomings of these guys and tell us why he kept them all around for so long. Tell us what he saw in them, what motives he thought they had for some of their actions towards him. He had to know them all as well as they say they knew him, so maybe he 'd have an accusation or two on each of them(maybe many more) I would love to see their faces as they looked him in the eye.
But lets be real "It aint gonna happen" at least not in this life. Hes not writing a book.
Call it wishful thinking, or idealism but I believe he might have a point of view of his own which counts, much he might dispute and much he might agree on. IMO
Is this Lamar's first book?

First solo book but he participated in a couple of others, for one the Horrible
book by Albert Goldman mentioned by numbers. Then He worked on The Elvis Encyclopedia with David Stanley . Then Revelations of the Memphs Mafia with
Billy Smith and Marty Lacker with Alana Nash being the real author.
I've long said ; the true story of Elvis Presley has yet to be written.
I still feel that's correct.
I would give anything to see the faces of some of the MM, the Stanley's etc. if Elvis could "look them in the eye" .IMO, I think they'd all run .
With that said; I don't think we can complain or discount anything that's written without first reading what they say. As KPM has said; check with your library first , read these books before contributing to any income to these authors . We cannot discuss anything without the full knowledge of whats been said.
Personally, I won't buy anything from these guys because I have read some of their work. With friends like these, Elvis didn't need any enemies. They were right inside his camp.
I don't have anything to add except to say; one of his friends told me to listen to the words of Sweet Music Man by Kenny Rogers .
In his opinion; those words best describes the last years of EP's life.

I will read anything concerning Elvis, good, bad or indifferent. Whether I keep the book in my collection is another matter entirely. Diane

I just won't buy it because Fair or not, I don't like him. Its cool if Elvis liked him, and its cool if he's been able to make money because of that, but me , I don't like him. Hope its a good book though , and good luck to him battling the cancer nobody should have to do that, its never over and its hard on everybody that likes and loves you.
