Finally picked up a copy of the FTD book/CD set ROCKIN' ACROSS TEXAS and I have to say that the Fort Worth show that came with the book is an EXCELLENT CONCERT!!! (y)
While I certainly enjoyed reading the book (which leaned pretty heavily on Elvis' shows across Texas during the 1950's, which was cool for a change) as well as the AMARILLO '74 show that came with the book, I was truly impressed by the Fort Worth show!! While I am a fan of Elvis' 1976 shows, the quality of them was up and down throughout the year but this show was OUTSTANDING!!! Elvis tore into SEE SEE RIDER and just didn't let up! His voice sounded stronger than in previous shows, and he gave great performances of AND I LOVE YOU SO, AMERICA and HURT (especially the full reprise, which rivals the version from the '77 CBS special in my opinion)!! There was very little goofing around during the show, and it seemed to me that even on the "throwaway" songs like JAILHOUSE ROCK and HOUND DOG, he was giving them a little something extra during this show!!!
Just a GREAT show to listen to and one that will get maximum playing time in my CD player for days to come!! (y)

i have it also -no it wasint a *good*show it was a great show-what year it was never mattered when elvis always gave his best-when he wasint feeling well some shows were not as good-which is normal -elvis got older like everybody else-we couldint expect elvis to deliver shows like he used to give when he was at his very best 70-71-72-still the 76 concerts there many were great performances and his voice was better--the december 76 tour was one of his best in many years-i got on audio casette the buffalo 76 concert elvis sounded just great also at that show

Glad to hear your high praise for this show, Mike.
Is this not the one that Tony Brown said in the past (I think in Jerry Hopkins' Final Years book) was the best show he ever saw Elvis give?

Thanks pal!! :D
Actually...I thought this was the show Tony Brown was talking about too, but when I went back to check it out, he was referring to the Fort Worth show on JUNE 3, 1976! (It was a bit confusing for me at first, until I realized that Elvis was in Fort Worth on both June 3rd as well as July 3rd, 1976! )
Personally though....I can't imagine that the June 3rd show was so much better than this one for Tony to proclaim it to be the best show he remembers!! Except for a bit of goofing around during FEVER, this Fort Worth show from July 3rd really is a straight forward show with Elvis in great voice, great spirits and turning in great performances, even like I said on the "throwaway" songs like JAILHOUSE ROCK and HOUND DOG!! (y)
Although I have not heard the June 3rd show, I would have to guess that perhaps Tony is really thinking of this show from July...and if that is the case, he makes a STRONG argument in my opinion!! :hmm:

Mike, I've got that cd Holding Down The Fort which is from JUNE 3rd 1976 and like the July show in Fort Worth..that show in June was pretty straight forward, with very little playing around..and indeed it was a great show...imo, both of the Fort Worth shows were very good...the June 3rd and the July 3rd shows (y) .

I haven't heard the June 3rd show, except for the parts that were released on CAJUN TORNADO....but it's been a while since I've listened to that CD, so I guess I'll have to go back and give it another listen... :hmm:
Thanks for the info. Cheif!! (y)

Can't wait to hear what you think elvis himselvis!! (y)
I did have to go back and check something I read in your previous post! You mentioned hearing the partial Fort Worth show on the CAJUN TORNADO CD, but when I looked, the show contained on that CD is from JUNE 3rd, not July 3rd! So you'll be in for a real treat when you do get to listen to the July 3rd show from the ROCKIN' ACROSS TEXAS book!!
