Did anyone see that? Found it by accident flipping through the channels a few days ago.

PBS fundrasing show.

Footage of Old Elvis performances, great stuff as always, a lot of 70s material, BUT...
it was backed up by old band members playing today. All older. It'd cut from the old Elvis footage, to these people playing/singing all the same backup but doing it today.

I'm describing this badly.

Like those beer commercials with all the old actors in them.

It SUCKED.

Yes that was some of the footage from the new dvd "Elvis Lives the 25th anniversary concert"
Maybe you are unaware that they travel the world putting this concert on with Elvis footage on a bigscreen and original members from Elvis's touring group.

I caught a little bit of this on PBS last Saturday. Suprisingly was the first time I had seen Elvis The Concert:blush:. But liked it much more than I thought I ever would. TCB Band did a great job that Elvis would have been proud of;) .

Frankly, I think that PBS is stupid for airing this before releasing it to the general public....

Anybody remember the TTWII fiasco?? :hmm: :hmm:

Personally, I think they made a mess out of what could have been an even finer dvd by interupting certain songs to do "commentary"

What I think they should've done was leave the concert un-interputed and then have the commentary as a "bonus".

It's still a good dvd, so don't get me wrong....but I think it would have been better had they re-positioned the "talking/commentary" parts.

Nope. Didn't know.
Thanks for the info and clarity on it.
Looks like I'm alone with not caring for it.

Oh, well.

Peace,

You need to remember that this DVD was release long before they aired it on PBS. That is totally different than what happen with TTWII SE. TTWII SE wasn't originally not going to be on DVD but they decided to put it on DVD. But many people record the show on TCM when it was first aired. As for Elvis Lives. It was release like in October or November. That original DVD contain What Now My Love which that song is not on the DVD right now. As for it going to be a failed just as TTWII SE. It is number 1 in the UK and number 4 in the US. Making it the most demanding DVD of a artist that has been dead for 30 years. Many people who went to that show bought that DVD as soon it was release.

I don't particularly care for it either Nev, I bought the DVD because hey thats what I do when I see "Elvis" and "DVD" together. Thought it was cheaply produced and edited. Looked like a box I got here for my dvd-rw and the cover could have been done much better by some of the guys here. The "show" itself was really badly edited. I'm sure in real life the concert is spectacular but on dvd I'm not convinced. I even think the TCB band etc. should do what they used to do and dress alike, not come in a mix of garments from the pajama shop.
Glad I bought it though as it went straight to #1 in the UK music dvd chart! Yes, a video of a video of Elvis beat the lot, woohoo my man!

I've seen the DVD at the local bookstore & wondered about that. I don't think I'll be adding it to my collection. I believe this is something I'd enjoy more in person. I also think I wouldn't enjoy it at all on PBS, what with all the constant interruptions. THey should have aired a marathon of the Elvis movies - "all 29 pictures" (quote from Elvis in 68 Comeback special)

I think you need to give a try and don't listen to others. I love it. I watch it just about every day. It is a good show even with the talks between songs and during songs.

Did anybody catch the lady on the PBS show say Pork Salad Annie, when reading the set list on the back of the DVD? It was late when I watched the show and perhaps I didn't hear her correctly, but I swear that's what she said.

I have the 'Elvis Lives' DVD and rate it every bit as good as the '1968 Special' or 'Aloha From Hawaii'. The sound is better than both of the latter two. I cannot stop playing it.

Get out and buy a copy. Fantastic!!,.

Gotta agree with you Boss Man!! :notworthy

While I LOVE the concert and truly enjoyed hearing the commentary, I think they should have been kept separate like you said!!! (y)

I do have to agree with some of the other folks like Lisarose that ELVIS THE CONCERT is something that probably needs to be seen in person to attain the full effect of what they are trying to do!! But nevertheless, it is VERY COOL to finally have an official record of the show because I am sure that eventually, for one reason or another, ELVIS THE CONCERT will come to an end and it will be nice to go back and enjoy the DVD!! Personally, I think the effect of the whole show comes off quite well on the DVD the way they put it together...except for the commentary interruption thing, of course!

TCB!
