Curtis,
Sad day indeed. Sorry to hear that.
If you're too choked up to do this yourself, maybe I could say a few words in celebration of its life before you bury it in the backyard. You'll have to tell me some of the songs it liked to spin the most (besides Three Corn Patches, of course)...
All kidding aside, I do feel your pain. I'm having some problems with mine, and at first rather than have it fixed, I thought I'd look into getting a new one. But unless you wanna lay down a whole lotta cash, you will find that they just don't make 'em like they used to. Today's similar version of the 1979 Sony model I have looks and feels like a cheap piece of crap that will not last too long. It could, but the quality just doesn't seem to be there. So if I have to replace mine, then I'll look for another good old one. By the way, I'd rather buy one that I can see in person, obviously, but there are tons and tons of them on eBay.
But you might want to save up for a while and spring for a nice Technics or something--or that laser turntable ($$$$$). Whatever you get, do something besides selling your records in order to afford it!
Please...in the name of vinyl. ;)

Can't you just buy a secondhand turntable? Shouldn't cost more than a few bucks...
Anyway, hope that you will have music real soon

Thanks Bobby
the one i have is an Technics but the needle on mine broke on mine,
i was getting to play 'Raised on Rock" Album, the needle went all the
way though the record, i said oh no you don't.
but it was to late.
so now i dont know if i can get this kind of needle again.
and Albert this was an secondhand turntable.
and i do have lot of Elvis music, and on cd, and most of them on cassette tape.
ill try to fine a needle for it,
Marcel

You know, Curtis, this could be a blessing in disguise...
Maybe you'll finally be able to live in this century and use CD's!
:)
Don't be too disappointed...
CD's are in and vinyls are out!
we have to live with our times...
I long ago got rid of my records, and tapes don't have players at all here!
I am living with CD's and DVD's.
No more tapes, records and videos...
You'll be glad this has happened, Curt!
:)

nah mate, think your wrong there :D
records maybe old and not widely available however ,if in the local dealer they had jungleroom sessions on cd and viynl both at the same price i would rather buy the viynl first. Its just something about viynl that beats cd hands down.If only ftd/rca would release viynl a bit more often.By the way has curtis or anyone ever heard of this beauty:
my boy/loving arms
grey label
made in the u.s.a
i just found out it is worth $600 and i have it  .I will post the address of a site where it shows this same single and you can see for your self the single.

Yeah, I only paid $25 for mine. (y)
I don't guess I actually said that, but I meant to imply that since getting a new good one could be really expensive, looking for an oldie but goodie would be a worthy option. But I didn't know if Curtis had a real expensive one now or anything like that.
He and I have talked about these laser turntables (http://www.elpj.com/) before which cost as much as some cars  , so I wasn't sure what he had in mind.
My $25 steal was in really nice shape, direct drive (no belts to wear out) and fully automatic. It's the best $25 I've ever spent. Speaking of best buys, although I obviously pay more for Elvis records, I have gotten so many great LPs for $5, $3, even $1. Heck, I've gotten some double albums for a buck! Whether you're vinyl-crazy or not, there is no better way to acquire new music and build up a collection fast...besides the internet, I guess. But it's much more fun to scour record shops or eBay or wherever, in my opinion.
I may be preaching to the choir here in the cases of some of you, but this is just a discovery I've made in the last six months or so, so I'm still fired up enough to want to share it with everybody.
NOTE: I started typing this a while back and got interrupted. In the interim I've seen these other replies, so I'll address them.
Marcel, yes, most of the world has moved on from vinyl, but that's part of its appeal. :D
Curtis, I betcha you can find a needle for it! I'm glad to hear that's all it is. If you don't have any luck, give me the specs, and I'll see what I can find. Sorry to hear about your ROR album. It sounds like your needle was a little overdue for a changing!
Aron, sounds like you've got a nice one there! (y)

Through the years my cd collection got bigger then mine vinyl collection,I still have about 300 lp's some single's and some 78's ,I think If you sell yo?r collection you will regret it sooner or later...And that regret is worth the price of a needle???? NO NO don't do it..I gave away a few cause i thought hmm why not?..also have 'm on cd....But I feel pain and pitty now that I did that!
Just the look of that big goodlooking cover ...the touch of that big black wiggly disc...the warm and characteristic sound....It's an event itself...And if you want something on cd just ask this message board maybe we can all burn a cd a person and save vinyl from the eventually dump...
:worthy: God bless vinyl :worthy: (and also bless cd's God otherwise maybe my data gets erased from those small silver discs)

Ahhhh vinyl.... (y)
I know we live in the technologically advanced age of MP3 players, CD's, Audio DVD's, etc...
...but there is NOTHING in the world like the sound of that needle dropping on to the playing surface of an album, and listening to the popping noises that eminates from the speakers, as you anxiously wait for that first song to begin.... :D
