Always made me wonder about the version used on this great 77 album release :hmm: it is a great version but why does it sound so smooth and effortless when compared to many other versions where u can almost hear him bleed with the effort and emotion he drives into it (y) ... just one of those things that always puzzled me !

It's prolly because of the overdubbed instrumentation on the song....

The Ann Arbor show from which the Moody Blue version of Unchained Melody was taken was one of Elvis' best 1977 performances. He was also somewhat slimmer on that April tour than he was on the February, May and June tours, so he may have been in slightly better health.

Felton Jarvis added a lot of echo and a lot of instruments on the UM performance featured on the MB album. The finale was also overdubbed with the voice of Sherill Shaun whatever Nielsen, that is why it sounds so effortless. Elvis himselvis didn't get the final note. But neverthenless: If you listen to the undubbed version on the FTD release "Springtime 77" it is still a great performance!

I've often wondered how often Elvis had Nielsen doing that note at the end'
I sing a little and that note is a falsetto when Elvis does it, I can hit it because it is not a full voice note, its really not hard in falsetto. I keep thinking he must have had breath control problems and that was why Nielsen was helping.

I Agree. The version from 6-21-77 Rapid City imo is perhaps the best ever...second best would be from Ann Arbor Show...imo.
