I can't wait to get my hands on the FTD Live In L.A Book and soundboard as Elvis was according to many to be on great form showing Led Zeppelin, who were in attendence, how to rock.
American Trilogy looks fantastic too, a real class show.

I would just like to say how much I enjoyed your recent interviews with the EIN [top class by Piers as always] and www.elvisbrasil.com (http://www.elvisbrasil.com) concerning future FTD releases.

Many of the Elvis fans are probably thinking along the same lines as
I always wanted another 1974 ELVIS SUMMER FESTIVAL concert to be released and according to your interviews maybe it's in the pipeline.
This would be fantastic, I'TS MIDNIGHT FTD is a amazing concert and captures Elvis trying to shake things up.

If I could make a suggestion maybe a boxset or a Book project all about the 74 SUMMER FESTIVAL this would make a absolutely fascinating FTD release. with 3-4 unreleased concerts and rare photos [wineglass, mermaid, two-piece leather suits] this was one of the best concert years of his life.

Keep the fantastic releases coming because FTD, is for me a complete goldmine and anyone else who is music savvy.

According to Led Zeppelin road manager Richard Cole, Led Zeppelin first saw Elvis in concert during EP's '69 Vegas stand, (though they did not meet him).
Cole also says that Elvis introduced LZ (as one of his favourite bands?) during the '74 Forum show, asking for the spotlight to be put on them.
Of the meeting between the two, Cole says that Elvis 'connected' with John Bonham via there mutual admiration of Peter Sellers, with both of them sharing some of there favourite Sellers' quotes.
Cole also quotes Elvis as saying that he didn't have much time to listen to music, but that his stepbrother had played him 'Stairway To Heaven' and that it was rather good.
As LZ were departing, Elvis offered to "give them a few autographs for your wives and children......."
Another meeting between Elvis and a member of Led Zeppelin (John Paul Jones) occurred in March 1975. Organized through Jerry Schilling, the meeting happened in Bel Air. Apparently Jones left the meeting with a diamond encrusted watch and gold ring, with Elvis hanging onto Jones' Mickey Mouse watch.

That's very interesting, I know for sure that Robert Plant is a Elvis fan after he covered some of his songs ["Party" is part of a 50s medley during Whole Lotta Love on HOW THE WEST WAS WON 3CD] [/I]and attended some of his concerts in the early seventies.

On the Jonathan Ross show [BBC RADIO 2] about two years ago when Robert was a guest, Jonathan asked him who was the best he had ever seen "live in concert", "Elvis" replied Plant without any hesitation,"in about 74, he was smart and funny and I could not believe he died just a few years later".

I believe Zeppelin saw one of the MSG shows too, 1972, the concert where he perfomed Reconsider Baby.
This is all whetting my appetite for the April release LIVE IN L.A BOOK & SOUNDBOARD.I hope it's fantastic. .

Soundboard(s)? Not interested!!
Do you not realize how dumb you sound? With every post you make about something you are not interested in (and there are more than enough), you let everyone know that you just love to deprive yourself of some great material. Guess what? No one cares what you want or don't want. Why must you cast a negative shadow on a post such as this? Someone makes a post about how they are looking forward to a certain soundboard show or two, and it is only a matter of time before you let everyone know (once again) how you are not interested.

Go listen to the few CD's you do have and stop wasting everyone's time with your world-weary outlook.

You're a very sad person.

Shut up,Jerry! We already know your opinion about soundboards very well.;)

Instead of sass,go and find some unreleased outtakes and live recordings from the 50's!(y)

Soundboards can offer a very rewarding listening experience especially if the sound is good Dixieland Rocks,Desert Storm,Night Fever In Vegas,Southern Nights and many more.

What fans must remember is that were very lucky to have them at all.
A soundboard is a Elvis concert captured in time and for me they are pure Gold.
We are not going to get DSD sound as on the recent Genre releases [Genre Live is sensational] but what we do get is fantastic, well done FTD.

The sound on the FTD CD UNCHAINED MELODY was amazing and personaly I thought it was better than the FTD SPRING TOURS which was recorded specially by RCA.

If the sound on LIVE IN L.A. comes close to UNCHAINED that will be fantastic.

Thanks for the info! There is also a great story about that LA meeting, told by Robert Plant, of how Elvis and him sang a duet on "Love Me"... I'm pretty sure there were no cameras or tape recorders around, a pity...
And, I think they met once more, at some airport in 75 or 76.

WOW! thanks for posting this, do you know is there any photos of Elvis and Led Zeppelin? I didn't knew they saw Elvis in '69 when he was in such good from, neither about the Mickey Mouse watch, Elvis was great! In the BBC sessions Led Zeppelin CD they play "That?s all Right Mama" and "A Mess of Blues" in a medley with "WHole Lotta Love", that was in 1971, so cool! hope a pic of those guys and Elvis together may appear in that FTD Book, I'll buy it just for that.

I've also read Joe Esposito worked for L.Z. around '75 is that true?

This is the kind of project I always dreamed.
I hope that more of this kind of release can me done, dealing with seasons/tours.
As a fan of the August 1974 shows, Im 100 % for a book/CD of this season, maybe with two soundboards.:notworthy

I think the last meeting occurred on the tarmac somewhere in April 1977.
In passing, the conversation went like this "Elvis Presley once teased him about not owning his own plane - Elvis Presley asked where Led Zeppelin got the jet, "we rented it from Caesar's Palace" said Plant. "I own mine" replied Elvis Presley." according to http://imdb.com/name/nm0686619/bio

The LIVE IN L.A BOOK & CD is a dream release for me because 74 was one of the most fascinating concert years of the Kings life. Also being a Zeppelin fan helps too, especially as they were in the audience and met Elvis afterwards.

David E.Stanley[Elvis's stepbrother]himself a huge Zeppelin fan said he saw Elvis do the best concert he'd ever seen him perform that night Zeppelin were in the audience.

I hope I'm not getting my hopes to high for this release, and here's hoping for a FTD -ELVIS AUGUST 74 SUMMER FESTIVAL BOX SET some time in the future.

I believe Elvis was one of the first rock stars to have his own aircraft with LED ZEPPELIN following suit afterwards.

As for Joe working for LZ around '75......not that I am aware of, though he did wear a Led Zep '75 shirt in Pine Bluff, 1976.

I don't see why August '74 would warrant a 4 cd release or a book/cd release.
A release of the opening show, the complete rehearsal, and highlights from the rest of the engagement (including the infamous Desert Storm monologues), would make for an illuminating document of this engagement.

my boy
03-03-2007, 10:01 AM
That's more or less what the thread is about.A box set or book including maybe, DESERT STORM, NIGHT FEVER IN VEGAS, THE OPENING SHOW and rehearsal.BMG has around 20 soundboards from Aug 1974 so they have many to choose from.

Not all of them will be in releasable quality, but there's many different combinations they could release with maybe 2-3 unreleased concerts tied in with DESERT STORM.

With the pictures from this period of the Mermaid, Rainfall [please correct me if names are wrong]and Wine Glass 2-piece leather suits made in Long Beach California this would make a fantastic FTD BOOK OR CD BOX SET.

Elvis was looking "one hell of a cool dude" in this 74 SUMMER SEASON.
With the visual and audio side of the BOOK OR CD BOX both fantastic you have a double whammy, because there's know doubt that Elvis was performing some amazing shows in the 74 SUMMER SEASON, [DESERT STORM, IT'S MIDNIGHT and NIGHT FEVER IN VEGAS are in my top ten live concerts].

Any way you slice it a FTD project from Aug 74 would be a fascinating project.

There was an interview with Ernst Jorgensen posted recently on the ELVIS COLLECTORS BRASIL website and in the interview, there was a question asked about whether additional shows from the August/September '74 Vegas season would be released and Ernst stated that "We can certainly do another one on August 74 - we have almost all the shows."

Here is a link to the entire interview:

http://www.elvisbrasil.com/epbrasil/ernstinterview.htm

I agree completely that a box set of this Vegas engagement would make for a GREAT release!!! As for the idea of a book/CD release of this engagement, I'm not sure if there are enough photos from this engagement to fill up an entire book...I believe that the Hilton had some kind of a picture taking ban in place at Elvis' shows (maybe it was for flash photography only?) and that is why photos from Elvis' Las Vegas shows are much more scarce than photos taken on the road... :hmm:

So am I. And I think they have enough soundboard recordings from that engagement that is out there that could make for an awesome set for FTD to release. Even if they use some shows thats been released from the engagement on bootlegs. I would just love it if they have an unreleased soundboard recording from another one of those Vegas shows...the Engagement may have shown a more talkative side of Elvis, partly due to the fact they he was simply bored out of his mind with Vegas..but the shows were very good imo.

Desert Storm in your top ten concerts? Elvis is pretty out of control in that show. He oversings to the point of distraction and the quality is missing from the top of his range. It's unfortunate, but uppers did severly mar this show. It does make for an interesting listen, especially with the infamous rant, but it's not Elvis on good form.

The oversinging seemed to be pretty common during that time period..even following into the Sept/Oct 1974 tour..just take a listen to Dragonheart..I remember reading somewhere that the use of so much uppers during that Vegas engagment was because Elvis was taking his sleeping medication and slept throughout the entire day until it was time for him to take the stage. So he was obviously really tired of Vegas and didn't want to be there. So he would have to wake up fast so he took the uppers..unfortunatley this was not so great for the quality of the concerts with all the talking, karate demonstrations etc....but still there were many good shows.

Elvis does over-sing on DESERT STORM but there are also some great tracks. This is why it's in my top ten It's midnight,Big Boss Man,Softly As I Leave You,Aubrey, and a fantastic If You Talk In Your Sleep, not available on any other releases except NIGHT FEVER IN VEGAS[Rock Legends] IT'S MIDNIGHT [FTD].

These concerts are so different maybe that's why I like them.Elvis introduces Softly As I Leave You as one of the most beautiful songs he's
ever heard and that goes for me too.Aubrey is superb, top marks for Elvis letting his backing singers share the stage and limelight.

I just love James Burton's wah-wah guitar and there's plenty of it here on - If You Talk In Your Sleep which is amazing!
The band intro features some more great guitar, drums and bass, probably the best intros I have heard.

IT'S MIDNIGHT was chosen for release because of Elvis's outstanding performance and the import releases have great performances too.

Although Elvis is not on top form,he is still outstanding enough for my top ten.

AS RECORDED LIVE ON STAGE IN MEMPHIS [FTD].
THAT'S THE WAY IT IS -3CD SET EXPANDED.

Seems like we have the same taste in the concerts Mike  (y) . I agree, if any of those shows deserve RCA/FTD/BMG attention its the 8/19/74 OS. The completely different setlist, more uptodate songs, just can't get much better. Really wish Elvis would have given that setlist a few more tries instead of throwing in the towel just after on performance.
