Hi everyone. I am trying to do a little research and thought you guys might be able to help. I recently bought an item signed by Elvis ( yep, it's real, had it verified by two sources, not to mention the exhaustive research I did myself) and it is inscribed " To Mel, Thanks ----again, for everything. Elvis Presley." It did not come from the original owner, so unfortunately not much of a story behind it. Any ideas who Mel might be? It sort has the ring to it that Elvis might know him (or her) or he had done some work for Elvis before? Any help would be great! Thanks

The name Mel isn't ringing a bell from within Elvis' circle. There are several possibilites though. For Elvis to be able to take the time to personalize an autograph, it would be following a show, most likely Vegas. Mel could have been part of the stage help, hotel staff or even security. Least likely would be just a personalized gift or something given to Elvis, to which he shows graitude by personalizing the autograph. My quess is going to be only "Mel" will know for sure. :hmm:

Thanks alot. I asked Marty and his answer was pretty much the same. The only name he could come up with was a girl Elvis saw a few times named Melissa. My guess it was probably stage help, etc... Cool item to have anyway. Thanks alot.

You are welcome, I noticed your post. What Marty  said, is probably right, he was helpful.

Did you take in the atmosphere? lol (n) (Sorry I just don't like what they say about Elvis, they infuriate me). I'd just love that place to be stormed by a lot of Elvis' fans with lots of backbone, who could take some of those people to task!

No I didn't like the atmostphere therem rude and crude. I'll probably never go back. True what you said there, that would be cool. If you ever want to storm the place and get a bunch of fans together, count me in.

if i am correct in summer of 72, the head of HILTON security was MELVILLE TORBIN, who also went through the detail of elevator security for E.P, he was also photographed with him on 2 ocasions, his daughter was a paraplegic and E.P. bought her a brand new wheelchair, unfortunetly MELVILLE died in car crash in 87, his photos were sighned in red ink[marker]

Thanks alot. It's not signed in red ink, I think it's black or blue ( put it up, sealed, safe, dry and out of sight). It probably is someone like that, maybe even him, who knows? thanks again.
