The original belt that was desinged for this suit was a huge mirror belt which he used only twice during the June 1972 tour. The thin blue macramé belt he used in Vegas in September 1972 is from 1971. He used it for the first time on a suit named the "Knot Suit". Finally in 1973 a new belt was designed which seemed to be more in place. The "Tin Blue Macramé Belt" was his favourite. So you see there are three different belts.

The " Blue Swirl " with an alternative belt.

The ' mirror belt ' was used in February 1972 with the " Black Pyramid "( at least a few times ) and on some occasions with the " Black Fireworks " jumpsuits.

The " Blue Swirl " was worn in August 1972 with a macrame belt ( similar to the ones used in 1970 ) and in April 1973 with a regular stage belt. Those two belts were both designed for this stage attire.

The "Mirror Belt" could not have been used in February for this belt was originally designed for this suit which is originally named "Lucky Suit".

The Blue Swirl Jumpsuit has always been one of my fave Elvis Jumpsuits and it would have been nice if Elvis wore it for the 'On Tour" filming

Leroy

This is NOT the "Blue Swirl Suit". It's called "Lucky Suit". The "Blue Swirl" was worn in 1974.

Hihihihi; I'm not sure, everybody called it "the blue swirl" except you, Leroy...

You're a big Fan, like us, not a teacher !!!!

Stop to shoot the mistake Leroy, it's bad to us...

We are here to spend a good time !!!!

Don't stress, be cool.

Leroy

It's not that I want to be a teacher. I have called this suit the "Blue Swirl" for many years too but the designer of the suit pointed out to me that it was wrong. I'm just here to share knowledge and to try to stop untrue myths as there are too many in the Elvis world. If I would call "Jailhouse Rock" the "Prisoner's Song" I would be corrected too. It's the same thing.
All these suits got designer names and I happened to know them. And I'm just passing them on. If that is something you can't appriciate then the problem is not at my side.

I said that I thought !!!!

I saw yesterday, on the Bill Belew's links, that's jumpsuit called "the Blue Swirl", effectively... (b-k-enterprises)

But, sincerly, I don't care !!!!!

Le'ts called the "lucky suit", otherwise, that will be no correct for our
friend, Leroy !!!!

Is it your pleasure ????

You'll be a moderator !!!!! You are the best one !!!!

Thank you Leroy.

Leroy

The point is that Bill Belew didn't designed this suit. He only designed the jumpsuits until somwehere around 1971. After that he got too busy designing for other stars. Gene Doucette did all desings after 1971 although Bill took the credit. Gene explained to me what a swirl is. The jumpsuit most people know as the "Blue Rainbow" is in fact the "Blue Swirl". Do you see a swirl on the blue suit from 1972? No, but you do see four leaf glovers. That's why this suit is called the "Lucky Suit". If you want to know something about jumpsuit names contact B & K Enterprises. That's where Gene Doucette is helping out. I met him last January and he taught me something about jumpsuit names. I mean who is more capable of telling me than the guy who made them? Like I said I'm not here to teach just to pass on what I have learned. Is that so bad in a world full of unreal people, lies and myths? I'm not a moderator, just someone who's heavy into Elvis' wardobe and has been for the last fifteen years.
But it's okay by me. If there is anybody here who find my posts anoying I'm outta here......

No Leroy... I love your posts. I, and I'm sure many many others, learn so much from you and the fact that you're willing to spend so much time helping others is amazing! :notworthy

I really do like this suit but not as much as some of the other blue ones... the Owl one (or the Royal Blue Fireworks) is my favourite blue suit. :D

I am a Moderator!! I am also a good friend of Leroys (y) and if he says it is the Lucky Suit then I believe him.......... and the Information that Leroy has passed to me has always been 100% If there is anybody out there that knows more than Leroy then that can only be Gene Doucette.......... I welcome ALL information from ALL fans, but lets be clear here, always be sure of your facts and that of those you challenge before you draw your gun :D

CORRECTION!!!
Elvis did not wear the blue swirl suit in fresno,ca in 73'. He wore the blue nail suit. (kind of looks like the rain suit but with blue studs on it.) I'll download pics from the fresno shows. He also came in 74' and wore the blue rainbow suit.

And I'm sorry but I have to correct you. What you call the "Blue Rainbow" (1974) actually IS the "Blue Swirl". That is the original designer's name.

The suit most people know as the "Blue Swirl" (1972) is in fact the "Lucky Suit", and that is the suit we are talking about in this topic.
The suit you are referring to as worn in Fresno in 1973 was not the "Blue Nail" but the "Blue Rain". See picture attached.

The "Blue Nail" is a powder blue jumpsuit known from the previous year.

I enjoy your posts, Leroy, But people are going to call these suits what they want. If you ask 100 Elvis fans to identify this suit, 99 out of 100 will call it the Blue Swirl no matter what Gene Doucette supposedly called it in 1972. And the '74 suit will always be the Blue Rainbow. The Fans RULE!!! Let there be no Elvis police.

It is both the Blue swirl and the Lucky suit, both are correct. It was designed after country singer Dale Evans as Gene mentions in the B&k dvd. It is blue and has swirl design hence '' blue swirl" but also the small heart studs are patterned to look like 4 leaf clovers hence ''the lucky suit" . both are correct. This is also a great suit to compare with the Purple owl (see why it is and always was purple on the owl suit thread ), because flash bulbs made the purple owl suit look blue, but with this suit in some pics flash bulbs made this suit look pale blue or greenish in color.
