I actually saw this suit a few weeks ago in Mike Moon's collection in the Elvis museum in Tennessee. Sadly it is not holding up well and I have been told this is actually one of the duplicates of the suit from a few people.

really ? so what is the difference between fake elvis suit and the real one ? does people made some fake elvis suit to make money out of it ( same ole story ) ... i heard that Sonny West could help Elvis fans to see if what they got from Elvis collectors is legit or not...that was what so i heard, but then why him ? :hmm:

Southpaw,
I too have visited the Elvis museum there in Pigeon Forge, TN quite a number of times, but I have since learned that the Blue Nail suit he has on display there was not worn by Elvis. I recall reading on the FECC page about a year or so ago about someone who had proof (including photos and documents) verifying this. Perhaps we need to research this a bit more? :hmm:
Nevertheless, they do have some pretty interesting stuff there and a fairly decent store that sells fine items.

Most of the suits he wore in 1972 are fantastic, or maybe it was he that made them look fantastic.

I just got back from Pigeon Fordge, TN,and went to the Elvis museum. They said that the suit they have on display was made for Elvis, but didn't fit right, and he gave it to J.D. Sumner, and J.D. sold it to Mr. Moon to put in the museum. Another one was made for Elvis which he used. Here are a couple of pictures of the suit on display there. Does anyone know where the one Elvis wore is today?

The Jumpsuit displayed in those picture does indeed look like one of Elvis' from circa 1971 or 1972 and of a similar design as the Blue Nail however I'm just not sure that this is ligit, the belt design just doesn't look like those that Elvis wore! I could be wrong but something just doesn't seem right?

Your feelings about this suit are right Matt. This is not a genuine Elvis suit. It's not even done by IC Costumes. Last year there was a discussion going on about this suit so I decided then to forward the question to Butch. His very own word then were: "These kind of suits are an insult towards the Elvis designers!"
The real "Blue Nail" is in a very bad state of neglecting. It was sort of stolen by one of Elvis' employees (together with another suit) and sold to a lady who supposedly owne a dry cleaning store. She sold both suits to an impersonator who removed a lot of the studs and started to perform in it. The current wearabouts of both suits are unknow.

Brent, I've seen that suit that's on display in the Elvis Museum in Pigeon Forge, TN, but did you know that until about 6 years ago, they advertised that suit as "actually being worn by Elvis". Looks like they have changed their story again.:lmfao:

Due to Elvis's hair, I believe that first picture on the left is from Hampton Roads on the evening of April 9, 1972 and if so, that's the "White Fireworks" belt he's wearing.
Does anyone know where the one Elvis wore is today?
The real "Blue Nail" suit is in the possession of Sherif Hanna, I believe. The last I read was that the suit was in varying states of disrepair...which is a crying shame, to be honest. :supriced::'(

I would def agree with you on this TT...(y) I am most certain that this pic is from the Hampton Roads Coliseum show. I'll go back and look...but did no one post a pic from that show with the cape??? This suit was great, and it looked awesome on him. ;)

I agree with you, Matt. The chain on the back of belt is very uneven. The design of the belt period doesn't look authentic. Not that it never happened but I've yet to hear of JD having jumpsuits that didn't fit Elvis in his possession.

But in this case they could be right. For many years I believed Elvis wore the "White Fireworks" too. Mainly because the book "The Concert Years" has that info listed. But that book also contains a lot of flaws when it comes to concerts and wardrobe. In the Joe Tunzi book "The Documentairies" there is a picture of Elvis that's supposed to be the evening show of Jacksonville dressed in the "Blue Nail" with original belt.

It drives me crazy that nobody pays any attention to the actual tailoring of the suits in these discussions. The tailoring is as much an art as the design layout! Just research Saville Row, England and see how seriously those guys take the cut and tailoring of a suit!
The tailoring of the suit in question is totally consistent with the quality and style of the real suits of that era. Look at the way the collar is attached and the hand prick stitching up the lapels, not to mention the IC Costumes tag... And that is a pretty old picture, by the way... I first saw that photo about 10 years ago, so I seriously doubt it was doctored. My money says that is the REAL suit! There is no proof to any of the stories of the suit being stolen, neglected or anything else. All hearsay. For all we know, Elvis might have given it to someone back in '72 after that concert season.
And another thing, while I'm on this rant... Bill Belew and Gene Doucette deserve plenty of credit for their designs, but those guys did NOT actually make, or tailor the suits!!! I have done my own research on this. Several names have come up in articles going back to the 1980's as to who Elvis' actual tailor was. Manuel of Nashville, who worked for Nudie in the '60's and '70's himself claims to have tailored some of Elvis' jumpsuits. The names Joe Cotroneo and Ciro Romano have also come up.
By the way, I have seen the museum suit in Pigeon Forge as well, and it is definitely a copy.
Oh, and the back of the suit is quite different from the front. It looks more like part of the sleeves or the legs.

At the risk of discovering the fabric was actually purple, does anyone have a good handle on the color of this suit's ground fabric? It's another that can look radically different under different lighting conditions and I've seen pictures and footage of it appearing everything from a fairly bright baby blue to a paler powder blue to a cooler and darker periwinkle kind of color (and, of course, everything between).

Hmm, this photo does really look very much like the original. The tailoring as mentioned is correct.
The IC costume tag seems to be genuine too.
The stud pattern is consistent with the original suit. b&k for instance uses wrong sizes of nailheads.
You can see wear on the grommets.
In my opinion there is a good chance this is the real one.
The real "Blue Nail" suit is in the possession of Sherif Hanna, I believe. The last I read was that the suit was in varying states of disrepair...which is a crying shame, to be honest. :supriced::'(
