I was motivated to write a story by hearing so many different EP references all of the time. You know, like don't be cruel, or checked into the Heartbreak Hotel. Or it was return to sender, as is used a lot in basketball when a shot is blocked. So I thought I would do something unique new and creative. What I am doing is writing a story about a man searching for true love on his journey through America, but the catch is that I used EP song titles to tell the story. I will post each chapter when I finish them. See if you can find which song titles are in the story. Enjoy!
My Wish Came True - Chapter One
It all began one night while I was in Memphis, Tennessee. The blue moon I saw made it even more such a night. I went down to Beale Street and decide to join the party. While there, I met a girl named Judy. She worked on the strip of the city by night. I introduced myself and we began to chat. She told me that she was from New Orleans. I asked her if she's ever ate Crawfish and she gave me a dirty look and said "I'm from Orleans fool, what do you expect?" She turned out to be a hard headed woman. She seemed like the meanest girl in town. So I continued to mingle with other girls. I looked out on the dance floor and saw a tall girl with long legs. They called her long tall Sally. She could shake, rattle and roll with the best of them and she had every guy watching her all shook up. I asked her if I could buy her a beer and she obliged. We talked for a good while when she realized it was late. I asked her if she lived around here and she said she lived down in the alley with Josh. I asked her "who's Josh and she replied "he's my boy, my little son". So that threw a monkey wrench into my game. I have no time for girls with baggage, or kids. So I started going home, or at least back to my hotel room. I was tired so I decided to just go to sleep for the night.
The next day, I went sightseeing. I started downtown and worked my way around the big city. The first thing I saw was the Pyramid. It was large and stood out like a swore thumb. It made me feel like I was in Memphis, Egypt on a Harum holiday. After that, I went to see the famous Sun Studios. This was where a young Elvis recorded his first single, That's All Right. As I was leaving, I noticed it clouding up like it was about to rain. I caught the trolley and took a tour of downtown. I saw the river, Mudd Island and other popular places around town. The Proud Mary was rolling on the river. Our tour guide had a Spanish accent so I asked him if he was from Spain. He said yes he was and asked if I had ever been there. I told him "No, I have never been to Spain, but would love to go sometime.
As the day was winding down, I decided to take a trip to Peabody Place. I started shoppin' around and seeing all of the nice things in the mall. I then walked across the street to BB King's Club and had dinner. After I left there around 9:00 pm, I ran into some trouble with some young kids up to no good. "Run on" I yelled to them. But they came closer to me. I tried to run away from them and all of a sudden....BAM! I slipped, I stumbled, I fell flat on my back. An older black guy came to my rescue and asked me if I were all right? I tried to get up and he stopped me. "relax young man, you don't want to get up too fast." I told him I was all right. I guess I got lucky. I didn't get mugged. I told him thanks for helping me but that I wanted to get home and rest. He said that was a great idea and that home is where the heart is. My head was spinning that I felt like I was riding a rainbow, thanks to the rolling seas. Oh wait, that's a river over there, not an ocean. I finally got back to my hotel room and was distracted by the sounds coming from the next room. There was an argument going on. The walls have ears and are so thin so I listened to what the argument was about. A man and a woman were fighting. This woman was giving it to him verbally. I wondered what's she really like. Gently I put my ear to the wall, and listened. But my head was hurting. "Oh I feel so bad" I said to myself holding my head. I need to lie down.
After sleeping for what seemed were for days, I got up and went to get some breakfast down at the hotel's restaurant. A young girl waited on me and took my order. I looked at her name plate but couldn't make it out. She noticed me trying to read it and said "Marie, Marie's the name". I started a conversation with her and then she stopped me, "sir, doncha think it's time for you to at least order something?". I laughed and said yes. So I ordered and she left. I could tell though that I was getting to her. Playing for keeps. She was cute. I started to get a dirty, dirty feeling about her. I gotta know more about her. Later she brought me the bill and I thought then, "go for it, it's now or never, and you may never get the chance again." So I asked her out and she accepted. I said "great! I'll pick you up tomorrow night. "It ain't no big thing. I just want to get to know you better" I said to her. She smiled and said "you can take me to the fair, if you want. It's in town and I would love to go." So we agreed on going to the fair. I couldn't wait to take her out. But tomorrow is a long time, and it sometimes feels like tomorrow never comes for me when it comes to finding true love.
As I returned to my room, I noticed the girl next door went a walkin'. and a voice cried out "don't leave me now, money honey!"
"The fool" she said under her breath as she walked away. "Please, I beg of you!" yelled
the man. "Stay away! Stay away Joe!" she warned him with anger in her voice.
I realised and decided that once is enough for me and decided to check out of the heartbreak hotel and into the nice ritzier hotel around the block. On the way, I saw this long black limousine, so I figured it was some famous celebrity in it. After all, I was in the city that gave birth to Rock & Roll and was home to the blues. I reached my new destination at the Peabody Hotel. They have ducks that are famous for walking into the lobby. Old McDonald would be proud I thought as I watched the cute ducks march into the hotel with an usher. they were treated like royalty! I thought any day now they will have the ducks taking people to their rooms. After the amazement I checked in and headed to my room.
