i remember last august that GRACELAND had the belt that belonged to this suit on display with many others, but they never had the suit[to my knoledge, correct me if i'm wrong] on display, This was one of E.P.'S favorites and worn only 8 times, [gene doucette had said it needed alot of work to repair on knees , underarms, and that the cleaning was done with harsh solvents] I saw what was reported to be the original at the sutabeys auction[still have the catalouge] but the tag from the inside was covered up, and it was known that LICHTER was the current owner and wanted to part with it along with the red eyelit suit[BURNING LOVE SUIT] , It has bin auctioned a few times but no takers, so don't know if it was the real one, the damage on the left knee was apparent, and it was scuffed pretty good around the neck and waist, but no letter of authenticity from GENE DUCETTE made me sceptical and the fact that the insert tag was covered was another of ny concerns, i remember that JIMMY VELVET tried pulling a scam some 12 years earlier with a duplicate of the porthole suit, The auction of JIMMY CURTIN had the letters of both GENE DOUCETTE , and BILL BILLEW , and the suits[pyramid, and blue /orange owl suit] were on display and had the tag ICE CAPADES COSTUMES[IC COSTUMES] in red lettering. I have alot of great pics of E.P. in these suits , but i see why he liked the peacock , the colours and detail were jus incredible, Inever saw him perform live with this suit but i did see him perform in THE DRAGON[another awesome suit] i saw him perform in this on sept 1 74 eve show vegas, he looked great in the suit it was a real nice efffect under the lights [especially the red spotlight], the show was very good eventhough E.P. was drained, his voice was also pretty weak. Anyway anybody out there know the whereabouts of the original suit, does LICHTER really have the real thing?

Because Elvis gave things away and EPE auctioned things off.

The Jumpsuit is in Elvis-O-Rama, now closed & re-sold by EPE (With the new owner).
The Peacock belt was sold at MGM auction October 1999. Starting price $23000-25000.

03 ..... is right . By 1978 with Elvis gone the Estate was on life support. Vernon sold off some stuff , EPE when it was formed sold off some stuff.
I believe I heard not long back that when EPE / Sillerman bought Elvis a Rama out, that they intend on opening an Elvis Themed attraction in Vegas so I'd guess most of those items won't be coming back to Graceland.
I found this photo online from someone that went to the Elvis A Rama before
it closed. I believe this shows the suit in question as it was displayed when it was there. Its not a very big photo but you can see it.

well Elvis-A-Rama wasn't it run by EPE? I heard they closed it to re-vamp the buidling and add these is that true? Or is it closed for good?

Originally it was owned privately by Chris Davidson. Supposedly after a robbery he was investigated by the insurance company , I have no ideal how that came out maybe someone else here will. Then EPE bought it recently and closed it in October. Like I said above I had heard that they planned on trying to reopen a better museum somewhere on the strip itself, as opposed to where it was. I was through it once, it was a nice collection and all but
it needed some fine tuning for sure. Elvis contributed big to Vegas and if they're going to have a Elvis Museum there they may as well do it big.

EPE currently have everything that was in the Elvis-A-Rama in their possession.
They sent a truck down to Vegas to take stuff to Memphis.

Thats good news to hear because whatever else anyone thinks about EPE, they employ world class archivists who know how to take care of these important items.

Ok, I've read this forum, now here is my question:
Is this what Elvis was talking about in the concert on the bootleg CD "A Texan Trilogy", when either before or after he sang "Love Me" he introduced himself as the NBC network Peacock? Was he wearing that suit? Anyone have pictures of it close up?

I wish they could have like a "traveling museum" for the suits for those who can't get to Graceland.

It would be nice to have such a thing; but would it generate enough income is the question, after costs and security etc....

Yeah that was neat. They had the old record player from his bedroom. It wasn't very big, and there was talk of taking it to Europe at one stage.

thanks to all for the info, i also noticed that they have never had the red eyelit [burning love suit], i know that lichter also claimed to have the original, along with the white fireworks suit, i must admit that i never saw the elvis rama museum i did tour the mike moon and velvet museum some many years back, i think all this stuff is very significant, especially the PEACOCK SUIT, i know that E.P. gave jim curtin 2 suits , and he also gave shaver a pair of tcb glasses[72], along with the 58 tissot watch, virginia coons was said to have recieved his thunderbird belt after her meeting [she never acknoledged this publicly] and then sold it to a guy in phoenix, who in turn sold it to jimmy, and jimmy also bought the cape from the boy E.P. gave it to, jimmy was sold quite a bit of stuff from vernon , sonny, lamar. There is so much stuff out there and most of it has changed hands so many times, the last thing i bought was CHARLIES copy of THE ALOHA PROGRAM[PALE BLUE COPY], i know that he really treasured this , he also over the years sold old stationairy, picks, shirts , he even sold the mustang that E.P. bought him for helping/cordinating the last tour, he was responsible for bringing larry londin[not david briggs ].

It was displayed at Graceland but only for a month or so. It stool between the Dragon suit and the Memphis Suit for about a month. I use to have copies of photos that belong to a friend. He took a picture of it. I believe the belt was with it at that time. Not for sure but I think the belt was with it. As for Jim Curtin having two suits. Yes, he does and Elvis gave them to him. One was I believe is the Dark Blue 2-piece suit the he wore in 1975 (Macon 1975). The was one of the suits I think. The other was I think was the Blue Swirl. I could be mistaken. I have a Jim Curtin book that shows the two jumpsuits in it that Elvis gave him.

He did that twice at two concerts during the time of 1974. Of course both times he was wearing the peacock suit. I don't know about the cd that you have mention but I am trying to find the dates of the shows that he did say that he was the NBC Network Peacock.

With regards to who has what suit etc, I wouldn't trust anything Paul Lichter says about anything.
Total con artist, and full of you-know-what when it comes to his "friendship" with Elvis.

you know in the back of his book FROM THE CITY OF BROTHERLY LOVE there is a photo of him and E.P , it kinda looks fake [but i'm not an expert on those things] he HAS STAT4ED THAT HE ATTENDED 800 PERFORMANCES, but yet he relies on others photos for his books, and ones are very grainy , comming from newsprint no doubt, anyone know the photo i'm talking about? Aand can you verify if it was faked or not. I must say i never had a bad experience with him, but it has bin said time and again by so many that he is a con artist.the suits that JIM CURTIN recieved from E.P were the pyramid and the dark blue /orange flying suit, he has since auctioned these off.

I remember the first year they opened Graceland to the public. I seem to remember they had the 68 leather, his wedding tux, army fatigues and his custume rack that he used for touring with a bunch of his suits on display. If I'm not mistaken they were displayed behind railngs in the open air. Also many of his cars and motorcycles were displayed out on the back driveway, doors open, exposed to all of the elements! Thank God they hired some professionals to do it right!

Yeah the first year they had a few of the remaining cars under the car port in the back. Back then they let people take photos in the Pink Blue Hawaii Jeep, and a snowmobile with wheels on it replacing the skis.

Jim Curtin got two Elvis suits. The 1975 "Navy Blue Two-piece with Mutli Coloured Arrows" and the 1973 "Nail Mirrored Suit" . Both ended up on auction a year and a half ago.

He said. it a few other nights but the most famous time was at the August 19, 1974 Opening Show as boogie have said just before If You Talk In Your Sleep. The other times he said I believe before Love Me with his usually comment "Umm, Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen, I am the MBC Peacock."

It would be great to have a traveling museum show of Elvis' jumpsuits, costumes & jewelry. I know that one of the museums in Houston, TX presented the Princess Diana collection. I didn't get to see that exhibit, but the brochure I received stated that ballgowns, tiaras & other jewelry would be on display. If the Brits would loan out the Princess Di collection, shouldn't EPE loan out an Elvis collection?
