"Why Me Lord" is one of my all time favorite Elvis gospel songs. I have heard a couple different live versions of it. But, the one thing I'm curious about, is was it ever recorded in the studio for an album, and if so, what album is it on? Also, does anyone know the name of the album J.D Sumner & The Stamps recorded that Elvis had on his record player when he died? (There is a picture of it in the book "Elvis By The Presleys.....)

I agree, I like that song too. I think I remember hearing a live version with Elvis singing lead. Do you have any idea where that is? Thanks.

Thanks.Do you mean a live version where Elvis just sings it himself? I'm only aware of the versions done with J.D. And The Stamps, and even then, I've only heard two different live versions of it, one from 74, the other from 75. I was informed he performed the song in 76 and 77 as well, and I wasn't even aware of that.....

Elvis started singing Why Me Lord sometime in '74. Also was sung quiet abit in 1975...most of the versions i've heard, Elvis does sing along...but on 2-21-77 which is i think the last time he covered the song, didn't sing with the stamps..i noticed that on the latest ftd and was sad to hear it..

As for the song, its powerful, spiritutal, beautiful and I love every second of it ! :notworthy And I think Elvis thought the same about it;) .

The definitive version is the one from Memphis 74.

Agreed Jak ;) That Memphis '74 version kicks butt (y)

As for how good the version from 2-21-77 is David, imo all the versions from 1974 and 1975 are better
