View Full Version : What was Elvis' worst song?

Thought I'd ask you all: what do you think was Elvis' worst song?
Elvis would've been the first to admit he made some rubbish among the many, many gems; but what about the others?
My vote goes to Old MacDonald. (n)
It's bad for soooo many reasons: crap update of a kids' nursery rhyme, bad movie, bad time in career.
The only saving grace is the lovely Annette Day in the film version. I often wonder how Elvis felt when he recorded stuff like this, but I think I know.
The '68 Special was only a little while away ...
So, what was Elvis' worst track? And don't say Do The Clam, either. I love that one! :P

old macdonald, do the clam, a dogs life, yoga is as yoga does, and the walls have ears would get my votes
Froggy Went A Courtin isn't high up on my list.

You can tell by the sound of his voice that he didn't like "Yoga is as yoga does" very much

Elvis should not have recorded Old MacDonald. Just imagine 40 takes of that song and somebody releasing it on an album.
I Love Only One Girl
Yoga Is As Yoga Does
Some songs like these 2 are silly songs not worthy of being a single release.

It's pretty safe to say that most selections are going to be from the movie years...not surprising though. I'm going to say Old McDonald also...such ashame he was singing crap like that considering all the talent the man had (n) .

Hands down, Old MacDonald. EWWW!, next Yoga is as Yoga Does. Next, I Believe. Not that the song is bad, it just brings bad pictures of "LaVerne & Shirley" doing headstands & pushing up their legs in parody of the song.

Yeah defo!
Always enjoyed the way Elvis let people handle their own situations. He never felt the need to impose limits on people, or try and censor/protect things. Just a goold old fashioned Memphian!
"Old McDonald" gets my vote.

Interesting story about OLD MACDONALD...
In the new FTD book/CD release WRITING FOR THE KING, Randy Starr, the writer of OLD MACDONALD, has said that despite that song being commonly referred to as the worst song that Elvis ever recorded, it is the song which provides Randy with the second most dollars in royalties (behind only KISSIN' COUSINS) every year!!
So while I agree that OLD MACDONALD certainly isn't one of Elvis' best songs, I guess it doesn't matter to Mr. Starr....who is laughing all the way to the bank, regardless of what the fans think!! :hmm:
TCB!

Good story.
Well, I guess he used his right to free speech without censorship wisely!

Whats the point of threads pertaining to self-glorification on a Elvis message board?
Be careful Elvis girl, if you happen to insult anyone or even give your opinion you may be censored! So much for free speech!

whats the point of this thread
The point, Elvisgirl, is that I asked the question of other members to hear their opinions.
If you think it is pointless (as I do about a number of other threads) then don't bother responding ...

(y) Hey Srj1967 I think its a good thread !! (y) Unless we Elvis fans should think that all he done was great which wasnt the case. He recorded so many songs we all over have our favourites and not so favourite :hmm:

Froggy Went A Courtin isn't high up on my list.I liked this tune, I thought it was rather funny. It showed his sense of humor I thought. I'm not crazy about "Old MacDonald" or "Thanks To The Rolling Sea". "Do The Clam" is one of my favorites.....nearly was in the Billboard Top #30 if I remember correctly.....

If you think it is pointless (as I do about a number of other threads) then don't bother responding ...Would someone explain to me why every little thread seems to be getting heated these days for small or no reasons? What happened to having fun and sharing our opinions? What happened to the "Elvis love"?
Apart from the obvious - that endless string of terrible movie songs - I also dislike dreary ballads like Old Shep, This is Our Dance, I'll Never Know

I can stand "Old Shep", but "Dance" and "I'll Never Know" are two of my least favorites. They may have been great for Englebert Humperdink, but not EP.

Did I hear "Old McDonald" by Elvis in the 60s? If I did, I cannot remember
