It's nice to see Harley Davidson motorbikes doing a special motorbike for the 30th Anniversary. Story on the link.

The "Memphis Business Journal" is also interested in Jim Browder's book "Memphis ...JB Style" (With plenty about Elvis in it) I v'e just received an email from a reporter looking for Jim's telephone number :)

Maurice I think its going to be multiple bikes not just one. I think they are doing 30 diiferent themed bikes in honor of the 30th anniversary year. Should be interesting to say the least. But EPE should have gone with American Choppers which is the most recognized and one of the most popular tv shows.

Ok, Reese's special edition peanut butter cups, bicylcles from the Elvis catalog, now this? How far will the merchandising go to earn a fast buck on the 30th anniversary of Elvis' death? Have they forgotten that he was a man, and not a commodity to be bought and sold? Have they forgotten the importance of Elvis' place in music in history? (I still can't believe he was ranked 66th in that list....) It sounds to me like the Harley Davidson Corporation is just trying to cash in on the coming sales boom that the anniversary of Elvis' death will bring. If they had been smart, they would have decided to do these special motorcycles years ago.....

I don't believe that the 30 themed motorbikes will be for sale. They are supposed to be only for display at the visitor's center across the street from Graceland. But ****************, I would LOVE a EP themed bike. Imagine a black with red trim and the 68 image. Drive that down the street and see how many comment on how cool your bike is. But unfortunately these won;t be for sale as far as I know. But if you take into consideration this idea compared to EP ducks, Hersheys candy, and EP coffee, this is a brilliant idea to show the world just how big and important he is that a major but aging company is willing to do 30 themed bikes of EP.

I can think of a hundred other ways more befitting to honor Elvis' memory than this (and the Special Edition Reese's peanut butter cup isn't it).....let's honor the man and his music, not rip him off with lame merchandising schemes, although, I do have to admit if Colonel Parker were still living, he'd find really lame ways to bring in the money......

Elvis was quite aware of the marketing of his image back in 1956................dozens of childish artifacts appeared. He did nothing to stop it.
It's all part of the business. It never affected my appreciation of his wonderful music.

Motorbikes are very Cool machines with teenagers. The photo above often appears on posters etc.

Motorbikes are also very dangerous machines.......don't ask me how many times I came off my Hondas...even after years of experience:blush:

Great to hear this. Maybe some one could contact those guys from Orange county to create a special Elvis bike. That would be cool, because those guys can really make great bikes.

Personally, I would like a red white and blue and have two pictures of Elvis on each side. Both from Aloha From Hawaii. One picture is when Elvis turn his back to the audience to show the cape. Plus, one of him at the end of Can't Help Falling In Love on one knee and arms in the air. That would be sweet.(y)

Orange County is where they make the American Chopper themed bikes and they are way more popular than anything Harley Davidson does these days. Back in EP's day, Harley was the one. Now it's strictly Orange COunty.

Maurice, Harley's are a thing of the past due to Orange County now being the IT bike company. All the movie stars, companies, and businesses are lining up to get a themed chopper made in OC. Their show is right now one of the biggest shows on cable. Outstanding talent and I am hooked on that show as are a few of my friends who don't even like motorcycles. They are a gifted group of men who design any and everything to fit a themed bike. You should check out their website and you'll know what I mean. I bet if EP were alive today, it would be OC that he would want. That is if they would allow a 72 year old man on the treets with one.LOL Here's a direct link to their themed bikes for you to see what separates them from Harely or any other company.

A few years ago Bono of U2 Presented Gay Byrne our most famous TV and radio broadcaster with a brand new motorbike on his retirement. He rides it countrywide at 70 years old!

Yes you guessed right a Harly Davidson........Bono said to Gay, "It's very Elvis of us":-)

These days New york cops on their motorbikes, and the Harley Davidson clubs here take part in our St Pats Day Parade.

Choppers look OK for posers but how you gonna ride them at 120 miles an hour around narrow and winding Irish roads:lol:

Bono doesn't live in America. Things are done differently and seen differently here than overseas. But anyhow nevermind because you obviously don't get it.

I dont personally own a bike. However I know many people who live the "biker" lifestyle as they call it.If you ask them the bikes from OC are just a fad because of the program. The people who buy them are not true bikers.Harley really is the standard by which bikes are judges here in the states.Im told that when you see a little oil leak underneath a Harley that just means it's marking his teritory.

Harleys are really designed for long highways and better if you have no helmet to really enjoy the freedom. Elvis loved his bikes, all the chrome,it was flash, just how he liked things.

Oh but I do get it Elvis fan. I'm extremely sharp when it comes to motorbikes...I did about 100,000 miles on them:) In a short space of time.

Choppers are for sissys;) You don't often see black guys or chicks riding motorbikes. Am I right? Hope that isn't seen as racist!

Harley's are as popular today as ever. American Chopper is a reality TV show for a very small and rich segment of society. They don't even manufacture or fabricate their bikes, just design and purchase parts to put together.
