NASHVILLE, Tenn. The man who wrote Elvis Presley's "Burning Love" and "Goodbye Earl" for the Dixie Chicks has died in Nashville.
Dennis Linde (LIN'dee) died of a lung disease yesterday at age 63.


"Burning Love" was a hit for Presley in 1972. "Goodbye Earl" was a hit by the Dixie Chicks in 1999.


Linde also wrote "Callin Baton Rouge," a Garth Brooks hit in 1993, and several other country songs.

I was so sorry to hear about Mr. Linde's passing. He was still cranking out hits right up to the end. It was nice to see his songs continuing to pop up in the charts.

The contribution of great songwriters to the career of EP cannot be overstated.
